Rodger met with tba worst mishap of his career, falling with bis machine 126 feet into a ploughed field, half way be tween the two cities and within Sight of his destination. Although no bones were broken, Rod gen was rendered unconscious. He was. badly shaken, his face scratched and torn, his hands were burned by his motor and be complains of a severe pain in his side. His machine .. was completely, wrecked. Rodgers left Tournament Park at Pasadena at 3:84 o'clock expecting to fly the twenty-three miles to the beach in as many minutes. He became con fused after taking the air and after circling aimlessly for half an hour came down at Covins Junction, a mile. further from Long Beach than the point from where he started, lie. took the air again and after getting his bear ings, was following the tracks of the Pacific Electric Railway when the acci dent occurred. - This was in an isolated section and the first learned of his fall by those in terested was when an automobiliat which had seen Rodgers tumble and had dragged bim out from under the wings- o' his wrecked biplane carried him into the office of aphysieian at Compten. two miles away. Rodgers was still unconscious, when Mrs. Rodgers and her mother, Mrs. R. S. Sweitzer, who had been waiting his arrival at Long Beach.Ve ached Comp ton. Later be partly regained con sciousness and was put aboard a special train and taken to his hotel at Pasa dena. Enclosing Aviation Field For Outdoor Sports, One of the many interesting features of the Agricultural and Stock Exhibit and Aviation meet which will take place in New Bern on November the 22nd and 23rd will be the races, which will take place in the Aviation Field, Tha Aviation Field will be between the Roper mill and National Avenue, and will be enclosed by a fence at least eight feet high. A half mite race track 1b now being built inside the Aviation Field, f he races will take place Thurs day morning Nov. 23d at 11 oclock. The flights by the Curties Aeroplane will take place from the center of the rWce. track. Flights will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday and Thursday. The football game between New Bern and Washington will lake place on the Aviation Field at 2:30 p. m. on Wednesday Nov. 22nd. The Exhibit hall on George street wilt be handsomely decorated, toth in terior and exterior, by Mr. Ken and his corps of aselsCahts, from Washington, The Farmers' Union, of Craven coun ty, wiH take part in the parade. Scott The deceased had been suffering from a complication of disease for some time and his death was .not unexpected. Chicago, Nov. 13 Reports received Saturday night by the Associated Press indicate that cyclonic storms, coming between the abnormally warm period and the following cold wave, have caused death and widespread destruc tion in southern Wisconsin, eastern Iowa and Illinois Twelve deaths, several dying and a score df iojurtd are known to be lying in the wake of the storms, and suffer 1ng because of-the bitter cold and sleet and snow already is being reported. Southern Wisconsin was hardest hit, according to early reports. Near Or- fordville. Rock county, nine persons were killed and another is rot expected to live. , la the village of Virginia, III., three persons were found dead an! fifty in jured In Iowa a fifty degree drop in tem perature, accompanied by a driving storm, of sleet, tied up traffic formany hours..- An electric disturbance which iiBher ed this storm here, destroyed several feed wires in the city's electrical syB' tern and two men were injured. Property losses mounted up rapidly in the path of the cyclone blizzard. Nearly every public building in Vir ginia, Ills., was demolished, farmers' houses were wiped out in Wisconsin and the damage was increased by the heavy downpour of rain, sleet and snow. Later reports indicated that the dead in Rock County, Wis., alone would reach a dozen. Two deaths at Milton Wis., were reported to the train dis patcher's office of the Chicago, Mil waukee and St. Paul Railroad, but the wires were blown down before the re port could be verified. t Severe weather conditions are report ed all the way from the Rocky Moun--l tains, Iu Chicago the wind blew 44 miles an hour.
