Held Insturctive Monthly Meet- n iBg at Jacksonville Saturday. : Jacksonville, N. C, Jan. 9. The Onslow County Teachers' Association held iti December meeting here today. This was the December meeting be cause the regular time for the Decem ber meeting came during the Christ mas recess. Saturday's nue ing was opened with the singing of "My Faith Looks Up to Thee." Rev. F. A. Liles offered a prayer, after which he talked briefly to the teachers, touching upon home life, the school and the Sunday School ai factors in character building, giving special attention to-the first part of this subject. County Superintendent Tnompson, in reference to certain loci I condi ions that simetimes arise in 'ha rural local ities, exhorted th i teachers to try ftti h fully to settle such difficulties by the use of personal d plom icy so as not to bring about quarrels or disruptions in the school patrons. Owing to the inclemency of the weath er the attendance was not large, and some of the features of the programme were continued until the next meeting of the association to be held on the last Saturday in January. A rourjd table discussion on various subjects was indulged in by many of the teachers present. This disscussion dealt largely with the tsxt books and the requirements of teaching them. Generally the teachers seem well pleas ed with the newly adoptad listof books. TEllCjpg ALLEGED -by J L Notice Watch This. "TIGER" IHJE TOILS Young Boy Hungry and Cold Has Negro Arrested Who Sold His i Father Whiskey. Shivering with cold and weak from hunger Edward Cayanaugb, the young son of D. R. Cavanaugh, who lives near the city, called at Mayor McCarthy's home Monday night and told him lhat he wanted a warrant for Nick Ferran, colored, for selling whiskey to his fa ther a few hours previous. After ques tioning the lad the Mayor was convinced that he was telling the truth, and an officer was sent to Ferran's home. Up on arriving there a search was made and a number of empty bottles and jugs were found and also one bottle of whiskey. There was plenty of evidence that whiskey bad been sold there and Ferran was placed under arrest. The defendant was given a prelimina ry hearing yesterday afternoon, and probable cause being found was bound over to the next term of superior court under a bond of $100 which he secured aud wail released from custody. Young Cavanaugh related a story to the court that was pitiful in every de tail. He said that instead of his father taking the little money that he had and expending it to buy food and clothing for his family, that he bought whiskey with it, and that if he could possibly do so he intended reporting every man who sold whiskey to his father in the future. In this way he hopes to make it impossible for him to secure any li quor, and it !b quite probable that he will be successful.
