Bern has been steady from the very first, and the membership has ever been enthusiastic and harmonious. The members of New Bern Lode, though their quarters on Broad street were very comfortable, were not Bilia fied to rent, and the idea of (ecuring a permanent home was much discussed, and on Jan. 5, 1904, a committee (im posed of Bros. J A Brysn, W B B:ad- T G Hyman. O Marks, Thos. C Dan iels, Wm. Dunn, O H Guion and G A Nicoll were appointed lo investigate and report to the Lodge a plan for the building of a permanent Elks IJome in the city of New Bern. This committee went to work and purchased the si'e upon which our magnificent building now stands, organised an Elks Construe tion Co. and erected our present home, which we completed and dedicated on May 1st. 1908.
