Mr. J Leon Williams, secretary of the Craven County Fair Association Company, hat recently returned from visit to eevetal Fair Associations in northern cities and alio in this State where he wotto investigate the eon rlirions and secure blue prints and pho tographs of the grounds and buildings. Wi iie away he visited Great Brockton Pair at Brockton, Mass , the Tii-S ate Fair at Trent. N, J . the Allentowa Pair at Allentown. Pa., the Virginia Sttte Fair, at Richmond, Va.. the Mrck enburg Fair at Charlotte and the Slate Pair at Raleigh. At each of these places Secretary Williams conferred with the secretaries and secured detailed information in re gards to the plans upon which they were conducted. Washington, May 8 The litinerary of tho German fleet, which is coming to return the call made by tho American fleet to Germany last year, and the program provided for tho reception of tho fleet officers, was announced at the Navy Department to-day. The next day theparty will visit Mount Vernon, taking' luncheon on board the Preiident's yacht, Mayflower, and start on the return trip to Hampton Roads tbat evening. A complete division of the Atlantic float will serve as an escort to the Ger man fleet during its stay in American waters, and an officer will serve as an aide for Abm ral Rebt-uen Preschwitz, Although not dehmtely fixed, it is planned that President Taft shall visit the German fleet in person, leaving Washington on the evening of June and arriving in Hampton Roads the following day. The Hoose pas sed the Bulkly bill, providing for the coinage of one-half cent pieces ar.d hfSj-cent -pieces. The 'bill provides hat they shall be coined of 75 per cent copper and 25 per cent, of nickel. All new one-cent piecei are to be made a trifle smaller than the present penny. Hereafter they are to be made from the same specifications pioposed for thi ha'f-penniea and three cei t pieces. At present the one-cent piecss contain 90 per cent, of copper and 10 per cent, of n'ckel. The change in the proportions of copper and nickel will cause the reduotion in size. The one half cent piece provide I for in the House bill has aroused curiosity regarding iis use. A few instances cited hy its adher ents are: Some kinds of m-.'ata are list ed at lk'i cents a pound, but if one takes oi.e pound one pays 13 cents. In other lines dry goods (by the yard), groceries (by the pound) or greet groceries (by the measure) ihe price often is-124 cents or "two for p quai- ter."
