The 8th A Grade had a new kind of

each pupil prepared three thoughtful
questions which he tr she in turn asked

quite difficult sod much haidtr in many
cases than the teacher would bsve

General Tone Firm. Demand for

Vary.
New Yort, Miy 18. Cotton ha al
ternately declined and advanced. Much
of the time the und rtone has been fitm.
The floods, new breaks in the Missis
sippi levee i, persistent wet weather
over much of the belt and belief that
the government report on the condition
of the crop and the acreage to be iasoed
on July 4th will be decidedly bullish,
have emboldened big interests to bpy,
and led many of the shorts to cover.
Bulls insist that if the government Re
port comes anywhers near the facts it
has got to be decidedly bullish. especiol
ly as regards the condition of the crop.
They insist the belated season has led
to retarded planting and germination
They insist that the chance are very
much against a crop of a size common
surate with the demands of the trade
being raised. Meantime a large con-
umption is expected in this country
and also in other parts of the world.
Crop advices from Texas, Oklahoma
and even from parts of Alabama. Geor
gia and South Carolina, have been fa
vorable. In Texas especitlly the out
look is declared as distinctly good and
ss pointing to a very large crop, not Im
possible to be the largest ever known.
The price is so high, too, relatively in
the estimation of some, that every effort
will be made to plant a good pizd arop.
Beats don't rease to urge that a raise
of $15 a bale since January 1st discounts
good deal. They think that a week
or ten days of gsod warm dry weather
wou d put a d fferent face on the whole
situation. Some of the old bulls have
been selling. Waldorf-Astoria inter
ests. recently very bullish, have laterly
sold heavily and Memphis has also sold,
Somo Wall Street houses have also been
selling. But powerful interests in Wall
Street are bullish and also some well
known "spot" people. New Orldans
prices have at times been noticeably
itrorg Ths spt situation has continu
ed pretty firm, even if there is less
activi'y. The week-end statistics have
ecsntly favored the built. The opinion
is widespread and deep seated that it
wl I take extraordinarily favorable con
ditions from now on to produce a crop
of needed size.
