BERN 'nr Bern, N. C. June 25, 1912 JS BBYAN TO BE TUB PARA MOUNT ISSUE AT BAL TIMORE ! Io advance of the Democratic; National Convention at Baltimore, ta the political sky partially over- - . J l 4 I. t . Saab, auu duuilhti , iuicawuh warnings that portend a couven tioo hi confusion, a Democracy warning ' among its own members. To those away from the scene at Baltimore, there is fear and alarm, iur mese ouwiutra ibu ieei aeeuiy . i .a r . .. i . l . and tee deeply what it meaus to those who will be asked to vote in November, if Baltimore shall be even in a partial way a political repetition of Chicago. A. few days ago, from all over the country, there was a great wave of triumphant Democratic feeling. There were great men from East, West, North and South, seeking the Presidential honor, the name of any one being good enough to mean Democratic vic tory in November if there was e united party behind the nomina tion. But the cloud arose. It was the call of Bryan. It was the note of one demanding not mere recog nition, but power to name, to dic tate to a party, what its opening act of a most important conven tion should be. Mr. Bryan calls himself a "harmonizer," and his actions belie the word. .Not con tent with great personal gain in wealth and political reputation, through Democratic party influen ces, Mr. Bryan seeks to embarrass the party at this time, when suc cess is assured, if there shall be party unity. Democratic success no matter bow how great confusion and dis order may prevail in Republican ranks, is only certain if there shall "be a party united. For sixteen years William Jennings Bryau has been Ch? paramount issue to the Democratic party in that he had to be consulted and have his dic tum accepted before there could be any advance made by the party. Failure has followed. Today not the elimination of Mr. Bryan is needed, but that he cease io make the issue for the party, instead of the party, through its splendid leadership and eager militant fol lowers mak tog the issue without interference. And so unhampered, with the full Democratic vote, together with the many thousands of dis atisfied voters outside of the party, there would come certain success next November. FOILS A FOUL PLOT.
