Two car loads of truck shipped over the Midland yesterday. Only four bales of cotton sold yester day. Prices unchanged. The Midland Railway Company has ordered lumber and material for fifty new cars. ' ' Death of a Good Citizen. Mr. Abner Hargett, near Polloksville, Jones county, died on Tuesday morning. Mr. Hargett was regarded as one of the best citizens of Jones. He was an ex cellent farmer, and for many years a consistent member of the M. E. Church. He was a Christian in practice as well as in name. 7 Mr. Hezekiah Davis, who was in the f city yesterday, says several farmers up Neuse have planted cotton. it -t:- - Our neighbor, E. G. Cuthbert, is off to c Carteret fitting up an engine and .saw mill for Dr. J. W. Saunders. . The total receipts of cotton at this port to date foot up 20,704 bales. This is the number sold, and does not include a large number shipped from here. , Mr. C. R. F. Edwards is about com ' pleting ft huge boiler for Captain Gray's plate factory. It measures sixty inches in diameter and sixteen feet in length. The Midland depot for freights lias been moved to the warehouse on the river. All freights are to be received and delivered at that point hereafter. See advertisement. ; The steamer Content nea arrived from Trenton, yesterday evening, with a lot of meal, sixteen bales of cotton, and two ' jolly newspaper men, "Walker" of the Observer, and Johnson of the Messenger, equivalent to another five hundred pound bale of cotton. t Prof. George T. On Tuesday, April 4th, His Excellency Governor Jarvis, Senator Vance and Treasurer Worth left Raleigh for a trip of inspection, as required by law, over the Western North Carolina Rajlroad. The following is a report of the com missioners, as appears from their official letter book in . the Executive Depart ment: ' 'We, the commissioners, passed by regular train over this road as far as Henry's, and by special train to Warm Springs, on April 5th, to inspect and re port upon the condition of the work. On Sat urday Elijah Goodwin, an aged citizen of Middle Creek township, 18 tniles soutli of this city, took his own life. Mr. Goodwin's home was with his son-in-law, James Stevenson, and it was there the suicide was committed.
