For twenty years past the cattle island of Jersey, iu the English TMi f nn zi 1 nnnn f Iia nAnof a Pmmaa with the two neighboring islands ot' Alderney and Guernsey, has been pouring a constant stream of little cows into . the united States. These islands situated in the cur rent of a branch of the Gulf Stream and being kept moist all the time, nave afforded pasture for large herds and have been producing an incredi ble amount of the choicest butter. This baa caused the cows to bo bred up to the highest excellence and to be sought after by those who desire to make the best butter, and now they are found in great and increas ing numbers all over England and America. These cattle are very small, handsome, wedge-shaped an imals, witn a look ol a wild deer about them, as if they might be the immediate and pure descendants from some primitive wild stock. They are, used to being tethered, and are usually very tame and gen tle. But the bulls often get wild and lierce as they grow older, and then are very dangerous. , ' ; The Jersey cow usually breeds at two years old, and sometimes at lit tle more than one, and gives milk al most or quite up to the time of her next calving. She gives a fair quan tity of milk, in. proportion to her size, and it is so rich that it makes as much butter as the milk of any breed, however large. The butter is remarkably fine and . brings double price. It is churned with the greatest ease. Often a little stirring of a bowl of cream with a spoon, is all that is needed. These cattle have been bred pure for 200 years; and a half breed is often almost all Jersey. They have been raised so numerously in this country that the breeds can be had for a reasonable price. A male Jer sey calf is worth from ten to thirty dollars, and a heifer three times as much. Fancy bred animals are often sold for hundreds and thousands of dollars, but except to raise . fancy stock from they are but little better , than the common ones. Let fancy men pay fancy prices, but every day farmers should im prove their stock at reasonable cost. Manufacturer d" Agricultur ist. 'Don't put in no muskeeter net tin' for me," said Aunt Hannah.
