' v 't Faithful to his Word. " An interesting circumstance is related of George 0. Lake, the be nevolent merchant of New.-York, whose death haa been recently re ported. Like so many others, he came to the great city from Connec ticut a poor lad, and obtained em ployment as ' an errand-boy in a store in Catherine Street, a narrow thoroughfare leading to the East River-. " He was an errand-boy of the old- fashioned kind, one who received two dollars a week wages, slept on or under the counter of the store, and lived chiefly on crackers and F lire Bv& alid Cora WMsky cheese.
