Ateporter stepped into the office of the State agricultural society yesterday, and found the secretary busy openiDg letters, making en tries, etc., for the approaching fair. He noted in looking over the entry books, department a, neia crops. that one enterprising tanner nad made fifty-five entries, and another about thirty. Last year a Hake county farmer led in the number of entries, bat up to the present a webtern farmer is ahead. In addi tion tsjhese k unmber of smaller entries have been made. In de partment H- e lady has made eighteen entries of fancy work, most of them very handsome. In the department of cattle one stock raiser has made fourteen entries ol registered Short-horns. . A number of entries hare been Uius in vua ' uuici uoimiiuiiuia, and next week there will be pab tiebed a list, from .day to day, as ntrics ' are ' made. Secretary IwcLoU says that the books will be regularly opened next Monday and wi.l be kept open at his office until Saturday, 23d inst.,. after which date the headquarters will ..be at the fiir grounds ' Those citixens who cob template,- makuig entries would save themselves trouble by nat!r entries at the office here! efore the book are moved to the I fairgrounds, i tamtr of entries have been mac' , ia tic race depart toeut, which iomises to be very interesting Uua fair. Mr.6 Flynn is from the ofBea.of 'the Turf, Field and Farm, Neir Tork; He was at the races at Blackwelt park, Durham, last year, and his management was so good as to win the praise of all. The races this year are special features of the fair. This track is now on the great Southern circuit, with those at Washington, Rich mond, etc., and some fast horses will be here. The practically new track admits of speed and of course any former records here will be broken. Special preparations are in prog ress for the. entertainment of the members of the Northerp press who will be here. The convenience and comfort of these will be looked alter on all occasions. Lunch tables will be provided, at all hours. A number of special contributions for these tables are coming in from the North and South. At the proper time announcement will be made of the contributors. All things show that the fair will be the greatest ever held in the State. The attendance and exhib its from western North Carolina will be remarkably large. Very hard work is being done. The movement to have Thursday of the fair as a lialeigb holiday is popu lar. The Governor's Guard will visit the fair and have an exhibi tion drill and dress parade. The music by the Dne Raleigh silver cornet band of twenty pieces will be very attractive.
