They had evidence of the intimidation of voters at the James City precinct, and since the day they assembled in the court house other irregularities and improper methods uaed ia controlling the election have been brought to light which will be made to appear before the committee. The very member, Mr, White of Per quimans, who, without Investigation, introduced a resolution declaring Hus- Bey entitled to the seat, lived in New Berne long enough4o know something of the character of the voters at the James City precinct and he is certainly aware of the fact that a 'colored man dared not vote a democratic ticket and Stay there. It was only when two dem ocrats were running on the same ticket with republicans that a democratic can didate ever dared to speak in James City, and as soon aa it was evident that they had made an impression that would divide the colored vote there, the bulldozing process wag brought into requisition. Tho woman were told that tbe men who were canvassing the dis trict to enroll the school children only wanted to get their names iu order to have them bound out as soon a Clark and Lane mere elected: believing lhit, they appeared at the polis in arms, ready for those who voted the coalition ticket. If these and many other reportB of illegal methods resorted to to control th e elec tion are true, and they are made to ap pear ao to members of the General As sembly, then the action of the board of eanvaesers ought to be sustained. There are democrats and republicans in thia county, and a large number of .them, who hold that the board, was right in , declaring Clark ..and Lane looted to the General Assembly, be cause tber believe that these gentlemen received a majority of the legal Totee oaBt- Tho General Assembly should bo slow to reverse this action of the board and thus place a premium upon bull dozing, bribery, corruption and intimi dation. .
