In almost every eectioa of the State, except this immediate sect ton we notice, that farmers are holding conventions, organising clubs sad discussing matters pertaining to their vocation. Th Journal makes it point to re publish whatever we find in our ex changes, especially agricultural papers, experiences of other farmer in manur ing, planting and cultivating, and while we find abundant proof that tbe inten sive system pari, we find but little to Da said in favor of Iheexhiiutivesysteiu; but the practice of nine tenths of the farmers is to follow the latter. Most of them will admit that it is cheaper to make five bales of cotton on live acres than on ten or fifteen yet if he Ims manure enough ou the farm to produce Ave bales on five arrrs he will persist in putting it on teu or fifteen ami make ubout the same amount of oottoo. We have one farmer, however, Mr. W. B. Pearce, wbalives in the western portion of tbe county, who has reeolved to do.his beat on one acre during the present year. Now if be will keep an account of the coet of this acre and also keep an account with one manured in the ordinary war, he can satiify him self as to which pays beat. But if be keepa no acoouDt with either, be can onlyjpi ess which psys best, and guess ing will be worth nothing to bis brother farvaetl ' and very unsatisfactory to himself. Farmers' clubs or granges ought to encourage experiments of this sort. TheiU b far more satisfactory than those mad at the experimental station at Raleigh. And we think other lines of business that depend so much upon th farming interest for tuooeea oaght to encourage It. We offer the following premiums for the year 1887 and hope that others may supplement them so that sufficient inducement will be offered for many farmers to make an effort and report the result. To tbe f arar in oh of the counties of Craven, Jones, Onslow, Lenoir, Pitt, Beaufort, Hyde, Pamlico and Carteret, who produces the largest net results on one acre in cotton, exolusive of com mercial fertilisers save kainit and acid phosphate, we will send for one year the Weekly journal and Southern Culti vator; to the farmer in each of the above counties who produces the largest yield of corn on an acre of upland we will send for on year th Weekly Journal and iYopresstre Farmer, ublisbed at Winston. If there are others .who wish to add to these premiums w will taks pleasure in announcing them, and we will also announce th rules under which th re ports of contestants must be made. Mr. J. M. Keeslsr, Merchant Tailor, 49 German street, Baltimore, Md., states: "I take great pleaaure in aaying that in a caw of neuralgia in my fam ily I found 'Salvation Oil effectual and needy in the cur of the patient."
