Eorros Jovbbal: I find in looking over your paper of March let a letter re- ferrins: to a boerua elect ion held in Vanceboro a few- days ago, . Said elaa uon na rat lauasr, san aaioriMH tn no proper authority. "Subscriber' your correspondent, says It was Denv ocratio call, but the notions read: for the citizens of No. 1 township to assnra bie and vote for suitable Mrsotte for magistrates. Thia inolndad ail. Major Whitford had aaaw to RalalgH a law days before thia eall and Vrought the intelligence tnac XI sari's arm from Orange, Sanders froaa Onslow, and tbe representative irosn Transylvania, re fused to recognize the proceedings of tbe craven Democratic Executive Uom mittee, and especially as regards what waa done for no. l townsbip. Tbe pie down in thia part of Craven must be wonderful, attracting undue atten tion not enly at home but from afar. We will listen at these gentlemen from tbe hills and mounkalns whan we deem it expedient, but not before. The "Sub- scribwjawai haaa aeenals1nlisar4 lnlerfcies traSaa giMem, SM raraen strated, telling the Legislature of North Carolina that there was very great dis satisfaction in No. 1 township as to the men seleoted by tba exeoutive aosnmit tee. and very likely the people would prefer him to them, that he wanted them dropped, end his and his oowsin's name placed instead. These represen tatives, in order to give temporary re lief, told tbe "Subscriber" to get the voire of tbe people. Tbe good people did not know tbe '"Subscriber" in the contest. - "J Did you ever know an-vjleetfon it this kind to have a chairman, and the chair man to have the power to appoint the inspectors? This was done. Major Whitford wns made chairman. Mr. editor, tbe chair finding' She people were determined to endorse the work don bv the executive committee, endeav ored to invest in a committee f fifteen tbe power of the whole people. What ever aaid committee did waa final. Did you ever hear of suoh an election in a Republican government? Nojoabtthe "Subscriber" wanted to be governor of our township, bat be was not kawwn in tbe contest. His- ambition and ex pectations were defeated. How bad it ts for this would-ta Affioar (the'Sub scriber") to be beaten, entirely routed. and put to flight by an honorable and respected citizen, whom hs in his letter denounces and calls fraudulent, sore head ed. It is saJd that wise men change, but men of lees calibre never change. The 'Subscriber" never changes, I suppose. He Area at random, but his charges era blank; no harm done. Go home, "Sub scriber," aad mourn, now and then growl, then show your teeth, forvoTj eannot be Governor yet. Yon kick now, and if you were Governor you would be worn than Mr. York's muls you mention. You would kill yourself kicking at yous shadow. Compose yourself, and when a more convenient' season rolls around , and we cannot do any better, we will call upon you. The "Subscriber" condemns himself in his P. S. Everything going contrary to his wishes deserted his poet, and D. W. 8., a gentleman of perfect integrity, and as good a Democrat, and a great deal better than the "Subscriber," took a statement of the vote, for he well knew the "Subscriber" was around and that he did cot know Wiaat weald take place. The general Impression was the defunct party would resort to unfair means to defeat good men, ksnos D. W. 8., a rood man, a suan wfeeoa wa rely on, a man probably who foremcst in our township, procured a statement of tbstaDb a4)risr to ba a watchman on the watch tower. J. A. Jack 90. . .
