Each Presbytery attends to all the ecclesiastical affairs in its bounds, and is a court of appeal from any of its Church sessions or parochial Preeby teries. The five Presbyteries constitute the Syncd of North Carolina. Probably about forty member will attend Orange Presbytery, and our citizens will have an opportunity of extending' their well known hospitality to them for a few days. Carter Harrison Declines. C'liti ao i March 31.- The committee of five Oemocrals appointed at last night 's nn eling tu select a candidate for mayor called on Mayor Harrison today and asked him to accept the uominalion for mayor. He absolutely declined. City Collector W.J. Onahan was seen by the committee this morning and tendered him tbe nomination for the city treas ureshp. He accepted the nom ination. Being asked this afternoon if he had accepted the democratic nomination for mayor. Carter Harrison said: "Oh. good (lod ! can't you let a tired, jaded weary old man rest ' 1 am out of poli tics, and i m going to stay out. 1 spose you saw the statement that I was going to run in a newspaper t Isn t thai con clusive evidence lhal it's a lie V" In the evening the nominating com mittee again pressed the nomination upon Mr. Harrison, but he firmly re fused it. He said that if the Republi cans would withdraw Roche and put him on their ticket be would beat Nel son, the united labor candidate, 30.000 votes.
