In tbe abeenoe of the treasurer, n motion of Bev. lit. Spruat, Elder Leo Heartt was elected treasurer. The absentees at tbe last meeting of the Presbytery were called and excuses heard. In answer to the inquiry, ' 'Are there any new candidates to be examined V Bev. Mr. Hp runt gave notice of a oandi date in the Henderson Church, at pres ent at Davidson College, who desires to be taken ander the oare of the Presby tery during the coming vaoation. Reports of permanent committees were called for. Dr. Smith, chairman of executive committee of education, submitted a report,' which was received. A motion to dispense with the rend ing of the minutes of tbe last stated meeting and read the minutes of tbe intermediate meetings was adopted. The minutes of the meetings at Con- oord, Henderson and Greensboro were read aad corrections made. Rev. Mr. Miller called up tbe caae of Rev. Mr. Tidbali and asked that a com mittee be appointed to investigate tbe correspondence between him and Rev. Dr. 8mith. Dr. Smith desired the Presbytery to appoint a full oommlttee, competent to make a fair investigation of the whole matter. Tbe moderator appointed, as raid committee, Dr. Jobnsou, Rev. Mr. Mil ler and Rev. Mr. Darnall minister; and Elders Lo. lieartt and John M. Brown. A long letter from young Mr. Tut- ball's father, addressed to the Presby tery; was read. The reading afforded some merriment, mingled with eiprcs- sions of reg ret. Dr. Smith read from the manual the duties of the executive Committee on eduoation and expressed his surprise that Dr. Tidbali should, in the face of these, so misunderstand the motives of the committee. Dr. Johnson aked to be relieved from the committee. Dr. Harding was appointed in his plaoe. Rsv. Mr. Smith asked that Rev. Mr. Darnall be excused, on acoount of his intimacy and close relationship with Dr. Smith. His desire was to have a oommlttee entirely unbiased. Dr. Atkinson's name was suggested. The Doctor asked to be spared. Bev. Mr. Smith thought that the com mittee should be of the older members af the Presbytery , who had no connao tion with the matter heretofore. The moderator then appointed, instead of the committee first appointed, Dr. Walk Ins, Dr. Harding and Dr. Atkin son, and Elders Lewis and Lea.
