' Tba personalia of the Presbytery ia fine, and the members maintain a high standard of intelligence and Christian character. The Moderator, Rev. Mr VTilhelm, is an xoeIlent presiding of fioer. He oommands the beet order and preserves well the dignity of the body. Dr. Johnson, the Stated Clerk, and Bey. Mr. Willi the Secretary, are both efficient and prompt in their duties which necessarily enables the body to dispatch its work. Rev. Mr. Carrie, Dr.Atkinson and Dr. Smith are the most venerable members of the body. Dr. Atkinson's countenance at once be tokens piety, yet he has a good fund of humor which makes bim one of the popular members. Dr. Smith will be remembered by every member of Cook's Brigade, wbo may ohance to read this notice, a the preacher who visited us at Gordonaville and Orange Court House, Va., during the fall and winter of 1803-'64 where many were converted under his eloquent and powerful pre sentation of the Gospel. Age is be ginning to tell on him, but in the Rev. Samuel C. Smttb, his son, we have the Doctor over again. He is an eloquent, forcible and logical speaker and already wields an influence in the Presbytery. Dr. Watkins i a quiet member, but when he speaks it is to the poiot and effectual ; Dr. Harding does not speak often but always talks sense, and the same may be said of Revs. Summerel. Craig, Allison, Miller, Chester, Faucett, Isler, Thorn, the tallest member of the body, and others whom we cannot re call; in fact there was lees "windy" talking to the amount of intelligence than in any similar body we ever had the pleasure of attending. For good, hard work, and good practical sense the Rev. Mr. Bprunt stands well to the front among the younger member, lie was elected one of the commission ers to the General Assembly and if be attends will doubtless reflect crdit upon the body that sends him as will Mr. Summerel the other ministerial repre sentative. The Presbyterians are to be com mended for their real in educational work. No one is ordained to the minis try in their church unless he possesses, unmistakably, the qualifications to feocA'tbs scriptures. If we were going to find fault with them for anything we we should say they are not aggressive enough. This was generally acknowl edged, w believe, in the discussion to put a general evangelist in the field, Instances were oited where the people, in place where there are no Presby terian oho robes, were asking for the word as preached by them. With suoh aa able body of ministers they ought to do effective work in new fields, where they could perhaps reach a class that oaanot be reached by other churches. We trust the ministers of Orange Presbytery have enjoyed their stay in the city and that their work may result in great good. Church ItrTlctlTo-Dtr. Christ Church V. W. Shields Reo- tor.
