The conductor, engineers and train hands of the paaaenKer trains ol the Atlantic Koad don a handsome uniform on June 1. We like to see such marks of progress. Mr. Thomas Daniels, the retiring city treasurer, was around yesterday paying off the last vouchers issued by the re tiring board. He has made a faithful and efficient olllcer both as treasurer and a member of the board. It is hoped thit bis successor will prove equally is eflloient and faithful. The school of Miaa Leah Jones pic nioed at Fowlvr's, just across the river from the city, yesterday, and a most pleasant and joyous time they all ex preaied themselves. Various amuse ments were engaged in and the happy group returned with the consolation that no accident had occurred to mar the enjoyment throughout the day. The excellent services by the Atlantic (load continues to give it a good propor tion of the truck. Vulck time, good facilities, untiring efforts to please, and marked and uniform courtesy to every patron, are going a long way to make the Atlantic a popular route. Tbe ship ments from New Berne by ibis road continue heavy and we have yet to hear a single oom plaint. The retiring board of city councilmen bare managed the affairs of the city well during the last year. They have paid cash for all vouchers issued and made a large reduction in the indebted ness, so as to make it possible for the present board to wipe out the balance the present year. The retiring Us col lector made better collections the past year than ever before, in fact, by reference to our files we llnd that his delinquent list has grown smaller every year. We mention these facts to show the present board and tax collector, who is good and worthy man, that they will have to exercise the utmost care and discretion to improve upon or even to do as well as their predecessors.
