Mr. Ackerman is the man who t;ot such good prices for North Carolina peas, and m having equally good Buccnss with beans The receipts in New York yeeterday were eleven hundred crates, of which Mr. Acker man had four hundred and eighty. He r pons selling half barrel cratesat three dollars to three lifty Wehupe' these prices will oontinue. Committed for Areon. On Wednesday night. May the lth, the barn and stables of Simon Mcllwain, ool , of this county, eight or ten miles from this city, was burned and on the next day his d welling house was set lire but was discovered in time to prevent its destruction. On Thursday evening last Wm. Henry Wynn was before Justice F.. G. Hill charged with setting flrit to the same and Ann and Ida Thomas, two colored women, were up upon a charge of conspiracy to burn. Wm. K. Clarke, Esq , appeared for the defendants and Solicitor Geo. II. White appeared for the State After examining ths witnesses Wynn was committed to jail for arson to await the action of the grand jury, and the two women were committed in default of bail in the sum of one hundred dol lars each for their appearanoe at the next term of the Superior Court. Build Them a Waiting Boom. Oapt. E. II. Page, of Trenton, was in the city yesterday and he says the peo ple in his section are yet complaining loud and constant against the A. & N. C. Railroad for having no reception room at Core Creek, where they go to take the train. Mr. G. W. Richardson, the agent at that place, informs us that the receipts at that point since the open ing of the Core Creek and Trenton road have largely increased. It would ap pear, therefore, that the road would be justified in building a room at that point for the reception of passengers and freights. We know that President Bryan is using every effort now o put the bridges of the road and the roadbed in good condition for the summer travel, but we hope he will not netlest those people longer. It would require but small building to shelter tbe passengers and freight from the weather, which is sometimes quite severe, and the patrons of tbe road would be much better pleased. Railroad Talk. The following item is from ike Wash ington lngresn. A coast line of rail- way from Norfolk South is cne of the enterprises of tbe near future: We learn that the Albemarle and Pan- tego Railroad has located its line to Pun go Creek at deep water, near Pungo River, and that it is contemplated as soon as tbe road is finished, to put on a steamer to Oregon aed Aurora, and then extend the road to New Berne, whioh in connection with the road now being surveyed from New Berne to Wil m ington, which we understand will shortly be btultv will make a great through Una between tbe North And South. We congratulate our friends in the Aurora section, as well as in all the eastern part of the State at the Drosoeot of an early completion of this important enterprise, when this road it completed tbe trucxrarmers in eastern north Care Una will be enabled to put their produce in the Northern markets at Isses twenty four hours sooner than , by the present schedule. 1. .J j Ba4 Rcsolta) la Brery Case, D. They have run pipes all through tbe streets and water is spirted all over the ground, and mud stands, well, a quarter of an Inch in depth in some places, and we are helpless in the hands of these innovationist. Can I we get an injunction to stop these out rages upon an inoffensive people ? If one leans against a tree now to rest him self a soiled coat is the result. If two ladies stop in the street to confer upon the latest style, they are spattered with these water spouts. If the dust is kept down there will be no more dusty dry goods sold at a sacrifice, and the clerks will be relieved of dusting off tbe coun ters and the number of idlers on the sidewalks will be increased. Can noth ing be done? Can't we write a pieoe for the paper ? Can't we grumble or do nothing f While all this is going on to wear out our physioal natures the Salvation Army is actually trying to improve our morals, and yet nobody seems to rise up in our defense. If things go on this way we may not be surprised if men come here and take away even our name and nation. I, for one, am willing to hazard my all in the defense of my people and subscribe myself, with great respect, Yours faithfully, WM. DOLNI.NOTHINO. Let Mr. Williams io On. Editor Journal: The danger appre hended that tbe whitewashing of the trees will kill them, will not hold good . It has been customary for many, many years to have it done And no injurious effects have ever been seen from, it. Let Mr. Williams go on and get tbe streets cleaned ; let him put a stop to the throwing of waste refuse, &c., into streets; let every old barrel, box. chicken, coop, and, everything, which is so unpleasant not only to the eye, but to the smell be removed.
