Washington, N. C, direct Saturday,
July 2d, 1887, at 10 a. m. The steamer
Pamlico will sail from Norfolk on her
regular schedule Monday, July 4th,
reaching New Berne Tuesday, July 5ih,
and will sail for Norfolk direct on

Wo are aware of the fact that there is
a large amount of aggressive capital in
the country , but it ij hardly going to
the relief of any people who hayo not
faith enough in an enterprise to help
themselves. ,
If the people of New Heme want
manufacturing enterprises and believe
they will pay they ought to unite and
show their faith by their good works.
It will be a long time before 8 fool
comes along with money to thiow away
on experiments, and a stranger, though
he may have over so much capital and
business capacity, will give the people
bere credit for having a little good sense
and will not rush blindly into enter
prises that they refute to invest in.

stealing horses, having also stole one at
that place, making the third one that
he is know n to have taken.
Rules for (ioverning Test of Fire En
gines on the Fonrlh of JoH.
The first test will begin at 10 a.m. at
the foot Craven street; the second will
begin at 4 p.m.
Tho engines are not to leave their
houses sooner than one hour before the
test begins.
Each engine shall be filled with water
from the river to the satisfaction of the
judges appointed by the foremen of the
respective companies.
- Neither company iB to use chemicals
in the water used for steaming.
The tubes and boilers are to be cold
when examined by the judges before
the test begins, and tbe air chambers
most not be charged.
Neither pump must be primed.
Time most be taken from the word
"Fire" as given by the judges.

Commons tonight Sir James Ferguson,
under foreign secretary, replying to
Mr. Campbell, eaid the order in which

pspal envoy was received somewhat
earlier than some of tbe others.
