Atlaatle ft North Carolina aiid ( ape Fear Yadkin Vallej Railroad. ..'. A close observer of current , vents caunot fail to be impressed i with tbe fact that the railroads of this country are rapidly cousolidat lng, the larger corporations buying up the smaller and thus destroying all competition, will become the most oppressive agencies iu exist ; ence, and it will be hard for ( on , gress or the State Legislatures to t restrict them bo as t prevent dis - crimination in one I'onn or another or riding rough shod over the pe "; pie. In advocating a consolidation ol - the (Jape Fear and Yadkin Vallej and the Atlantic & North Carolina , railroads, we believe we are aiding fa State system which will be inde pendent ol the giant corporations that now control the railroads OI trie Mate, and in I lie tie vel'-pi' , th po : head ( In ( : i I ! lir cut ne M ate nmi ; . ei li sec! ion a lit nl New Kerne and Moio nit i that our readers may get an idea ul what the C. Mitchell, Cald. ii ti-iii - . . i. ; .. o C(aI..b Forsjth, Guilford, ltandolph, Chat ham Moore, llarnctt, Cumberland, Bo6eson, Sampson, Wayne, Lenoir, ; atones, Craven and Carteret.'' - At the time tbe writer penned the abore lines tbe Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley was only running Cart to tbe Gulf in Chatham conn tj. By tbe end of this year they Will probably be running cars thrangh to Mt. Airy in Sarrv OXyity, and the work will be poshed with vigor until the coal fields of southwestern Virginia are reached and a line to tbe great Northwest be tapped. So the Writer of that communication was not overdrawing the picture when to to forcibly presented the C. F. & Y. V. system, and urged a con section tf the A. & 2J, C. with it. The'reaoni for such connection r -1 consolidation are stronger to 7 than ihj then, nd the people along the iino of . the AJ are almost " with one accord demanding that the two roads be brought together under one system, if proper terms can be made with the C. F. & Y. V. What better thing can be done for More head City and Beaufort, New Berne, Kins ton. La Grange and Goldsboro than giving them a railroad sytem extending from Beaufort harbor to Southwestern Ya., and to the South Carolina line on the South, bringing togeth er twenty-two counties of the State and carrying their products out at North Carolina ports T What bet ter disposition can be made of the A. & N. C. ltailroad which prac tically terminates at Goldsboro, and as a local, independent line will never more than pay expenses and tbe interest on her floating debt, tban to make it a part of this great system! To give our readers a further idea of the bene fits that would accrue to Beaufort harbor and New Berne we quote again from the communication ol 1883: "By reason of the coal product which awaits the developing hand of the C. F. & Y. V. system, Beau- tort harbor would become one of important South Atlantic coasting stations for trans Atlantic and cuastwiso 'steamships, and at once a convenience aud a source of wealth to our impoverished and languishing State; attracting the attention of the world to our pro- duets and the capacities ol our sea port. The immense beds ol iron, copper and other valuable ores and minerals which lie aloDg the line of the C. 1". & V. V. Road from Moore aud Chatham to Aleghany and Ashe counties, the lull development of which this system of transportation will bung out, Mould in great part tind an outlet to the Northern fur naces aud foundries through the ports of New Berne aud Beaufort. The bulk of supplies imported for the section of country lying be tween Wayne and Ashe counties along ami contiguous to this line would tind their way in through the ports ol New Berne and Beaufort, and in addition to increased lines ul inland na igat ion lioin New Kei ne, outside lines of steamships would ur established and main tained iu the commerce with Beau fort harbor. While New Berue, instead of linding her customers within a radius ol thirty five or forty miles, would extend her trade relations beyond the confines ol the Slate. Products of our cotton lields would be carried to the f.ic tones in Caldwell. Chatham, Cum berland, Forsyth, (italford, Ran dolph, Surry and the hundreds of others that are to spring up (in the magnificent water power of these hill ami mountain sections which the ( '. V. iV Y. V. system penetrate and in exchange t he fine beef cattle, horses and mules and other pro ducts iif the Western slope brought to our doors. That exchange of commodities would thus again go on letwcen our Kastern and West ern people as in the days before the advent ol transerse railroads in terrupted and tinallv shut off the natural currents of trade, dividing one portion ol tbe State irom tne other. Can do one see in all this a reason for uniting the A. & N. C Railroad with the great through system of the Cape Fear and Yad kin Valley Railway, which when extended to the shores of the At lantic ocean, becomes a great State system of transportation and de velopmentT" The prominent and successful feature of Governor J arris's ad. ministration, tbe oae which .stood out pre eminently above all 'others, was tbe boldness wfih' which he tackled tbe W.N. C. B. and made such diposition of it as secured its completion to Paint Bock, and put the Dacktown branch well under way. Oar present honest and con scientious Governor has au oppor tunity of making his administration a progressive one ; an opportunity of doing a great work tor the ports of New Berne and Morebead City, and developing the Eastern section of the State, In the language of the writer from whom we have already quoted extensively, ''has any public policy of a higher consideration at any time ever occupied the execo? tive mind of North Carolina than this which proposes to sire one- fourth of the population of the State, their territory, products,' in dustries and resources the benefits of access ; to : an outlet ' through Beaufort harbor! Is , there, or can there be a higher or more beneficent policy of the State than that of fostering her commerce, the hand maid of agriculture, by building up her seaports of Beaufort and Wil mington?" Will not the whole peo ple along the line of the A. & N. C R, and of counties tributary there to approve any step the Governor may Uke looking to the consolida tion of this road with the C. F. & Y.Y.I Fob the Teeth. The following is an excellent wash for the teeth: Dissolve two ounces of borax in three pounds of boiling water, and, before it is cold, add one tablespoon fal of spirits of camphor and bottle for use. A tablespoonful of this, mixed with an equal qarfnity of water and applied daily with a soft brush, twill preserve the teeth, ex tirpate all tartarous adhesion, arrest decay and make the teeth pearly white.
