Xhe conduct of Senator Kiddle berer in defying the courts ol Vir ginia, and his consenting to be ie leased from prison by a mob de serves the severest condemn at ion by.1 all law-abiding people. The idea that a United States Senator COO Openly insult u court, delv its mandates and allow himself ie leased from merited punibhiueiit by a mob is simply shocking to think of. If an humbler citizen had been ;gUltty Of Such conduct Kiddh bergei himself would have approved and en dorsed the pnnishnient intlu ted by the eourt and condemned the man net in which the release was made. The Rnssian Minister of Marine has ordered liqnid fuel furnaces to be ntted to the ironclad Jchesme, j now under coarse of completion at Sebastopol. The decision is one of a very important character, since, although liquid fnei has been ap clads The Tchesme belongs to the fleet of heavy ironclads Russia is now building for the Black Sea. Three are already laanched, and three more are to be constructed at no distant date. The Tchesme, like the Sin ope, launched a few jreeks ago, has a displacement of over 10,000 tons, and carries 16 inches of armor. She is therefore a vessel of the first rank, and if liquid fuel can be suc cessfully used on board of her, there is every reason to believe that coal will disappear from the furnaces of the Black Sea fleet. That liqnid fuel can be employed on mercantile steamers of large dimensions is a well known fact. It is regularly used by between 200 and J00 6teaniers in liussia, according to Mr. Marvin's "EDgland as a Petro leum Power," and some of these vessels are nearly 300 feet long, Over a thousand locomotives and stationary engines in liussia also i ., , . ,. j . , burn nothing else but liquid iuel. Therefore, it is pretty clear that petroleum makes a useful iuel, and that as a heating agent it has taken a regular place after coal and wood. , . . c, . u x ; On the Caspian oea the Kussiau admiralty has used nothing but liquid fuel for its fleet there for tue last fifteen years.
