The great en terprise is strictly North Carolinian, having been projected by North Caro linians for the benefit of North Caro lina, and has been managed by North Carolinians with signal suooees from the very beginning. Yesterday trains on tho road ran to Pilot Mountain station, mak iug the total length of the line now in operation 220 miles. So we are informed by our val ued friend John M. Rose, Esq., who has been connected with the road from the beginning and to whose business capa city and high charaoter is due no little of the suooees the line has attained With President Gray and the other offi cers of the company be is heartily to be congratulated on the rapid and substan tial construction of tbe road and the popularity it has gained. Freights over tbe line are far beyond expectation, and the general business of the road is in creasing daily. As an example of this we understand that 40,000 bales of cot ton will be hanled this season into Fay- etteville from the Bennettsville, B.C.. section, an increase of 10,000 bales oyer last year's business in this quarter alone. We rejoice in so fine a showing and rejoice still more in tbe fact that tbe C. F. & Y. V., traversing the State as it does, almost from the northwestern most point to the most southeasterly, is strictly a North Carolina road, managed successfully by North . Carolinians. A dozen blood-stained, smoke-begrimed injured victims of railroad carelessness or blundering were brought into the lit tie station-house of the village early this morning, an i this afternoon charred corpse, victims of the same blundering : or carelessness, were laid upon the sta lion platform, while three miles west.l down the track of the Chicago and At- I lantic Railway, near a lonely old water tank, piles of debris mark the spot where a collision, Beldotu equaled for terrible results, had occurred. That i the lai-1 I've seen or expect to see of the poor fellow. Just as I bad stretched myself out to go to sleep, and almost before I closed my eyes, there was un awful crash, which, uol help mu, 1 never want to hear again. I could feel my self throw n violently tow ard the lop i f the car, and then I became insensible On the way up I realized that all was oonfusion In the car; tbatcanes, valises, rods of iron and lamps were in the air about me. 1 must have regained my consciousness in a very short time, for when I awoke all was darkness in tbe car, and horrible shrieks and piercing wails of agony almost deafening to my ears. In the end of tho car furtherost from me the stove was overturned and the flames were juHt starting with great rapidity. There was some sort of a npw gas lamp in the car, with reservoirs reaching from one to the other. The flames leaped up the sides, and in less time than I can tell it, the gaa was burning the whole length of the coach over beads. I was wedged in betwsen two seats where I couldn't move ajimb of my body, and there watched the fire slowly creep upon me. It was a ter rible sight. In the end of the coach near the fire I could see a lady caught between the seats ss I was. Tbe fire crept slowly across tbe car; she was soon enveloped in flames, and there, in agony, she burned before my eyes. Just across my seat I noticed soon be fore thefacoident a father, bis wife and daughter, I saw them, also, crushed together and burned. Just as tbe flames were blazing a foot or two away from me a man pulled me inco the aisle, and said, 'Come to the window.' Be must have mistaken me for some one else, for tbe moment he had looked closely at my face be dropped me, and harried through the window with an exclamation of evident disappointment. I then painfully crawled after him in safety."
