A few days ago. however, tbe dogi caught the scent of ihe rascal and traced him to the kit Chen, and were so persistent in their search around the building that Mr. Wadsworth was led lo make a critical examination and found the ihief concealed between the w ealher board ing and oeiling. Ue was not arraigned before a justice for trial: Judge Lynch took charge and executed him on the spot. It was a large black mink, the slickeet sort of a chicken thief. Improved Block It is a pleasure to see our farmers making an effort to improve their farm stock. Fery few weeks we note the arrival of soma high bred animal which is taken to ibe farms in the country and will in a few years show marked im provement in the "scrub" slock . Last week Mr. 8am. I pock, living a few miles from tbe city, received a fine, full blood Jersey calf. All enterprising farmers like Mr. I pock ought to favor and urge the building of the railroad from New Berne to Wilmington. With the improved stock, there ought to be an increased demand for milk, home-made butter and beef. More people in New Berne will make more consumers; more rail roads will bring more people and more business. Let all march along to gether. Heroes, CatUe a4 Chick..
