We have Been a statement In the Km sum Free Pr ss conceruiDK the death of Hryan Johnson, in Mucklea bury, about one week ago. The state ment is a reflection on the citizens of ibal section, whose sympathy for those in distress, and hospitality cannot be questioned. The facts are, that Mr. Johnson as in a pitiable and helpless condition, without means and without home. The "shed" or more properly "shelter" spoken of was put up at his request and by his direction, and sup plied with mattress, bed and bedding Suitable provisions were furnished daily and all the wants of the afllicted man. as far as It was possible, were attended to, The only complaint that can be made is in tbe place, and this, we are reliably informed, met with his ap proval We regret to have to mention this, but feel it our duty to correct any thing that might reflect on these people. The oircumstances and surroundings are such as are only known to tbem and it is not our purpose to explain more here. Tb Verdict Unanimous. W. D. Suit, druggist, Bippus. Some general account of this gather ing of eminent Christian workers may be pleasant to you and your readers. You have already explained the objoot of 'the assembly, i. e. to oonsult about the best method of meeting the great moral problem now agitating our coun try touching Illiteracy, Socialism, An archism, th Saloon, tbe Social Vice, tbe Non-Church Going Mas, Ultramon tanism,,eto. Tbe great questions have been dis cussed by earnest Christian men and speclaliot in many churches, Presbyte rian, Method ista, Episcopalians, Bap tists, Reformed, Congregationalists, etc., eto.- Papers, carefully prepared, or addresses, thoroughly elaborated, have - been ' presented, and , burning words of wisdom aad electric speeches of fervent orators have thrilled the im mense congregations. Our , meetings have been held in a large Congregation al Cburch on the corner of Tenth and O streets. , Its beautiful andienoe room seats about two thousand people and commodious apartments for business are contained in thetame building. Here has been a real minimising of differences, and a spirit of co-operation and denominational communion, which has been a signal feature and a blessed result of the hght a&d influence cf God's Holy Spirit. Epiacouahal bishops and laymen have forgotten offensive claims, and Baptittj alike and Presby terian bishops have dismounted their rigid high horse of Primitive aud Absc lule Apoetolicity ; and so on through the I lata of the Christian euro.-, and all have loosed one another iu the face as real brethren in a common Saviour. No thought is entertained of uuuing in one ecclesiastical organi? -ilion , but of co operating without antagonism, and as equals in Uod s ktugdoui. and recogniz ing one another, not at arm's length, out teart to heart before declruotlve error and inibiy and uniied hjels of sin.
