On Sunday night about the time the ohurchea were dosing servioe the fire alarm sounded, and a light blaee in the direction of Five Points designated the pot. A small two story building on Bountree street belonging to Shade Edwards, colored, was on fire and had made each headway before the depart ment oould reach it that nothing but tne frame badly charred was left. Look After the Fire Wells. It has been suggested that tbe city council have tbe employee who attends to the pumps to examine the fire wells after every heavy rains and see that they are free from mud. Several of the wells are used for the purpose of drainage as well as for furnishing water and it is often the oaae, specially after heavy rains, that they are choked with sand or mud as was the one on Moonshine Alley SundayVight where the Atlantio engine had difficulty in getting water, The Cora Crop. The State Commissioner of Agrioul tore, Mr. John Bobinson, in the last issue of "The Bulletin" advises the farmers of .Vorth Carolina to guard well their corn crop, a the statistics issued by the department at Washington City show tbe crop is two million bushels short of last year and shorter than any crop since 1881. In view of this he think the price will necessarily be higher than at present. It I well for those who have a good supply of corn, as well as those who have not, to put in a good quantity of oat and other grain and forage in order that they may be able to sell oorn. Personal. Tbe many warm friends of Mr. L F. Tlllery. formerly telegraph operator at thia place, but now living at Bocky Mount, were glad to aee him in town yesterday.
