Our correspondent "J. S. M." show s remarkable tact for a city editor. He seems to go upon the idea that the smaller improvements are the ones that ought to be noticed by the press; the larger and more costly ones sport for themselves. . Editou Joi unal: -It is a pleasure to note your interest in the improvements going on in our city as evidenced by your article on a "dog house" in Wed nesday's Jot'UNAL,, and to aid you in your laudable efforts to chronicle note worthy improvements I call attention to the following: An elegant and recherche chicken coop just constructed for Mrs. Cynthia Blackaskole in Pavietown; this splendid piece of architecture has a patent "Bill" attachment, which being plaoed upon the head of the rooster prevents him from crowing at abnormally early or unseasonable hours; the boxes provided for the hens to lay and set in are fur nished with newly imported Northern hay, and the entire tout entemble makes it a thing of beauty and a joy for some time. The clay chimney on the residenoe of Mr. Caesar Eberny , in the same vicinity has had several sticks added to it and now rears its majeetio funnel to several inchee above the elegant slab structure. Mrs. Juno Yellowbark has just placed at the corner of ber residence a new pork barrel ornamented with yellow ocber; it is to be used to catch rain wa ter for washing purposes. G. Washington Soot, Esq. has within the past week had two panes of glass in serted in the one front window of his residence and when the otherf our panes are added this will be one of the hand somest residences in that part of the city. Thepe and similar improvements are going on in our city, and while not ex actly indicative of a "boom" epeak in no fajtering or uncertain way of the growth of a love for the beautiful and an earnest determination to keep pace with modern improvement and entei prise.
