The enterprising editor of the State Chronicle has sent out a number of questions touching tue comins political contest fix this State in order, we pre sume, to learn, if possible, which way tbe cat will jump befere it is time for him to jjnip These questions are sent to the JoLU.naL office and we take the liberty of answering them publicly: Ut. What are likely to be the loading political issues iu juur county iu the coming campaign ' Ana. The "ine" will wan to stay in and the "ouu" will want to gtt iu The Druiix mli and a large uuuibut of Republicans will make a sliong effort to elect good and competent men to office 2nd. What leg lelatio'i do your people anl f Ane We want Iho lirueral A-jeembly in i he tirel place (oauauge thejudicial Jlatricta in accordance with common teue and wuh justice to Craven coun ty. If lrjiiolalMii 10 ntceasary for the purpoeo. we Hunt it in older to extend the A. A N. C. Our business inter est will not be lost shiht of, as in Bouie instances in the past, in our xoal for party success. We also want such legis lation as w ill give us more and belter public highways, and the use of convict labor in cutting new hghways through the pocosins and swamp lands of the Slate which will add greatly to the convenience of the people and make the lands available for the public school fund. 8rd. Upon what leading political iiues lions do tbey differ 'I Ans. The Democrats generally want lo maintain the present system of coun ty Kovernrnen t, and we believe some few Republicans think it belter than lo go buck to the elective system. This in reference lo those of both parties who take a lively interest in poli tics, but the masses of the people are BJliftted u iih anv s) stem that ad nun is lers the allairs of the county honestly, economically and judiciously. As lo national questions, Borne i w Demo crats favor u proU'Ctiye tar ill, while the ureat body cf the party want the only tariff warranted by the Constitu tion, for revenue. 4th. Ii there any disalfection iu the Democratic party in your county, and if any, what ie its cause? Ans. If there is any il is caused by the points noted in answer t the 2nd quest ion. 5th. How do the peoplo regard the administration of Cleveland V Ans. As a complete success, save, perhaps, in one particular. Tbey can not see the wisdom nor the sound sense in economizing at the expense of tbe conveniences of the people while the treasury is overloaded with surplus funds. A case in point: To save about twelve hunlred dollars annually, the depnty collectors of customs and boat men at Ocracoke and Hatteras have been abolished, and shippers and vessel owners are put to tbe great inconveni ence to come by sail boat one hundred miles to get Hie papers which tbe law require j the masters of vessels to carry, it being often necessary to change mas ters at those points before going to sea. 6th. If both cannot be secured. which would you prefer, reduction of the tariff, or repeal of the internal reve nue ? Ane. We want the internal revenue laws wiped out, root and branch, not that we are in favor of "free drinks, free chaws and free smokes," but be ceause we want the taxes derived from this source for State and county pur poses, and the tariff fixed upon a reve naeasis keeping ia view such manu facturing enterprises as need protec tion. 7th. Do your peopla favor national aid for education. Ans. Those who favor popular edu cation, or the'eduoation of the masses, do, provided the schools are oonduoted under oar State laws. 8th. In what way and how much will the Farmer's Allianoe influence politics in your county? Ana. We don 1 think there is an Al lianoe in the county. 9th In what way and how much will ths Knights of Labor Influence politics la your oounty ? Ana. Dont know.' We believe tail organization claims to be aoo-polltical bat will vote as their interacts sug gest ........ ,... . . 10th. Whom do jour people want as uemocratio nominee for Governor x "Ana, Thoe, JV J arris, though there are seme good and Intelligent menial the county tbst think tr tood volicr to "rotate." : But the friends of JarvU are entbesisMio and if he is tbe nominee he would IB all probability make each inroads on the Erpctitcsn rtaJU as to carry the coucty. v Offer Premiums. The generous act of Mr. C Reiien slein in offering a $20 00 silver watch for the beet exhibit of game at our Fair on tbe 13tb, 14th and 15th of March, is highly commendable and we trust others of our citizens will follow his example and offer special premiums.
