We lament that Ihe organic union of
the African Methodist Episcopal chu rch
and ,thfl African Methodist Episcopal
.ion church, so long talked of, and as
we thought so nearly consummated,
has had a serious check, as the basis of
union agreed upon in Washington City,
I). C, has not as yet grown to more
than a basis unagreed upon : but as .ion
is no longer in her weakness, but in the
development of a growth of religious
and progressive excellence, which,
thank Clod, mahUs her to stand and
walk alone, she can alTord to wait until
our dearly beloved sister church feels
like joining company and sign the mar
riage bond of perfect unity, (l-oud p
pluuss
And now in conclusion lei us hope
and pray for divine guidance here 10
the close of our sessions, and a happy
continuation of iod s superintending
care and management hereafter, to the
end that tbe ion we love may continue
to improve spiritually and materially as
ahe has during tbe past four years, and
finally having fulfilled hnr nns-iun on
earth, she may collectively enjoy the
reward of her fidelity in heaven.
On motion of J. C. Dancy that the
a 1 drees be referred to the committee on
Episcopal address, except tbe part on
church union, which should be imme
diately adopted, which was done unani
mously by a standing vote. -1
Prof. Wm. Howard Day of Pennsy
vania moved, which was adopted, that
a vote of thanks be tendered to the exec
utive board of this connection, for the
carefulness evinced in the work in
which they have been engaged, for
their fatherly counsel given, and for tbe
excellent recommendations which they
have made to us pertaining to the grand
progress of the African Methodist Epis
copal Church.
Dr. W. A. Sinclair introduced the fol
lowing which occasioned considerable
expression of opinion:
Whereas, This general conference has
received an earnest and a cordial in
vitation to attend the commencement
exercises of Livingston College, Wed net
day, the 16;h of May ;
And wnereas, it is not likely that tbe
business of the general conference will
be completed, at that time, holding one
session a day. therefore be it
Reaolyed, That an evening; session of
the general conference be held each
day, beginning at . eight p. in., in order
to expedite business and adjourn at the
cloeeofthe session, on Monday, May
Uth, 1888.
Resolved, That a collection be lifted
at each evening eoasion for general ex

should we fail to complete the business
before that time, we adjourn to meet at

shall be completed.
