Peterson of Alabama o-allcd at tenlion to the "Southern Review." a religious paper in the interest of .ion Melhotlsls, upon which he introduced a resolution that was referred to the com mittee on journalism, that the general conference endorse the action of the Kast Alabama conference, in the estab lishment of the Southern Review, and that an appropriation be made out of ihe general fund for the support of said paper. The auditor a report upon the business of the book concern of .ion connection for the year commencing November Cth IHH4 and ending April 6th, 1888, was read. The report on the book concern and the statements of Rev. Jacob Tbomaa, general agent aeemed to be satisfactory. .The report was referred to the commit tee on book concern. H. W. Smith, in desiring to look after the temporal affairs, introduced a num ber of qu eetions to elicit ihe information as to the amount of money raised and its disposition', as to whether the church property is deeded to the connection according to discipline, bow many bap tisms, etc., which was referred to the committee on reyision. Allen Harmon of Alabama desired to restrict the bishops in tbeir power to transfer pastors from one conference to the other, requiring each one to remain four years in a district, and not then, if he is not In good standing, which waa referred to the committee on revision. Andrew Mclver introduced a measure for the abolishment of the presiding elders' system, which proves to be un popular in certain localities, which was referred to the comrriittee on revision. O. L. W. Smith of North Carolina in troduced resolutions relative to re moval or transfer of members, relative to the payment of arrears of pastors' salary, and with reference to pastors' report, which was referred to the com mittee on revision. A. F. Ooelem of the Central Alabama conference stirred up quite a breeze by endeavoring to settle the manner of nominating and electing trustees, which developed a variety of opinions, upon which there was a difference among the bishops. The matter was referred , bnt when it is reported there is likely to be an interesting exchange of senti ment. After making the usual anounce ments the conference adjourned till 9 a m. on Monday morning.
