Covers of line music, and sdmners of
the beautiful, enjoyed a double feast st
the Musicals given by Miss Hatch le
Harrison and her pupils at the theatre
on last Wednesdsy evening. The taste
ful arrangement of a profusion of lovely
flowers had transformed the stage into
a miniature fairy land, on which the
eye might rest with continuous delight,
while the ear was ravished w ith strains
of wee leal melody
In (lancing over the program, we
were surpsksed to find the names of
several difficult pieces of instrumental
musio by the best classical composers.
We were still surprised to find Ibat
Miss Harrison's pupils had not only
mastered but could execute them with
sxi much taste and skill The ' Sonata
Pathetitue," beelhoven, and "ballet
Mustek, ' Kubenstein, deserve special
devotion. Miss Daniels has acquired in
a remarkable degree that subtle deli
cacy of touch and expression so necee
aary to the proper rendering of these
masioal gems. Indeed, all the young
ladies did exceedingly well, and gave
evidence of floe musical talent and
much faithful study. While all their
pieces were not adapted to popular oon-
esrt purposes, they were of ibe h igbesl
order of music, and ware thoroughly
f ppreoiated by the well-trained musical
ear. If the performance ef her pupils
on this occasion it an exponent of Mies
Harrison a ability and fidelity as a
teacher, abe mav justly be placed in ibe
first rank of profession, and New be me
ahonld not be alow to accord both to
herself and to them the appreciation
end encouragement they so well de
serve. Mies Harrison was fortunate in being
able to add to ibe evening's entertain
ment eome of our well-known, home,
vocal talent, and especially in securing
the preeenoe of Mies Soothgsle from
Norfolk. We hare rarely heard a more
finely cultivated voice, and the ohoice
selections with which she fsvored the
audienoe elicited the most hearty ap
plause. Miss Marks1 well rendered
recitations gave rriety to the enter
tain meat and was loodly encored.
Altos-ether this Musicals was oas of
those high-toned, eayoysDis entertain
meats we could wish ft oor privilege
more frequently to attend. A. C.
