River A rumor has been current in the community for sometime that parties bringing a raft of limber down Trent riyer several weeks ago discovered the dead body of a man. It was first thought that the parties were mistaken, that it was the carcass of a dead sbeep or hog instead of a man. But the report comes again that it is the body of a man, and Mr. J. T. Heath, the mail carrier between this city and Trenton, informs u that he has been near enough to examine and know that it is the body of a man. Where i the coroner of Jones county? Why don't he go down snd investigate the matter. Surely human life is not of such little importance hat the dead body of a man is permitted to remain in the river for weeks without an Investi gation. Under the circumstances it is to be hoped that the coroner has not re ceived information of the finding of the body, for it would be inexcusable neg ligence if he had failed to take eteps to investiga tefihs matter after it had been reporteJ to him. Elsewhere we publish on article on a very timely subject, one worthy the serious consideration of all who have boyo growing up without proper train ing for battling with the world. Cut correspondent's stranger is a little mis taken, however, when he says there are no young white man in New Benin learning a trade. If he had gone down lo Crab tree $ Co.'s and Edwards' machine shops he would have found several young while men engaged in a very useful trade. But there is no deriyiDg the fact that parents are making a big mistake in cot having their boys learn a trade. The writer knows of a boy just twenty years old who began a trade when elven years old. During the lime be has ohtained a fair education, is almost master of his trade and can make a living in any city in the United States. If all his time had been devoled to books be would very likely have been dependent upon his parents for assis tance even after he had obtained his majority. But now be is able lo carve his own way and obtain all the educa tion whioh his ambition desires. Parents, hsye your boys learn a trade whether they like it or not. If they live, the time will come when they will thank you for it. Stonewall Items. Tbe anlis polled their full strength, vhile many of our prominent l'rolnbi tionists staid away from ihe polls and did not touch the burden with so much as a little finger. About four o'clock the alarm sounded . but the building was too well under way to be put out when the people gathered, it is generally believed that kerosene was thrown into the cook room and tbe build iog set on fire by tbe same enemy. A part of tbe stock and furniture was saved. There was not any insurance on the building or contents. The loes Is estimated from a thousand to fifteen hundred dollars. Several who reached the fire early express the opinion that a good engine and fire company could have eared the main building. Should we not inyeet before we suffer severe oss by a great fire.
