I desire to correct the report 111 vour paper of yesterday in tbe case of ( itiens National Hunk of Raleigh vs ('. !iwd. Receiver of the Slate National Hank of Raleigh The facts areas follows: On the Friday be fore the State National liank broke en Monday there was an exchange of checks between the plaintiff and the Slate National Bank, and tbe Slate National Hank owed tbe plaintiff a large sum of money, for which the State National Hank gave its check on a bank in New York, which check was pro- tented. I he Slate National Uank was insolvent six months before it closed upon the Monday aforesaid. Upon these facts the plaintiff contended that it bad a lien on the funds of I he said bank and entitled to be paid the full amount of Die sail indebtedness to the plaintiff at the time the .-heck was g i ven . The court held that the plaintiff was not entitled to u lieu and must share equally with the general creditors. Bill dismissed. The case reported by you yesterday is correct as to depositors whose funds have been mixed with the gtneral funds of the bank. (). ( oalitiou In CriiTcii County. Lihtiib J l'KN a 1 I'nder tbe caption of "Craven County Politics," pub lished in your papei of the 81st inst., you say "Iet a thorough examination be made, and a comparison instituted between the work of the county officers put in by tbe ooalition movement and their predecessors, and if there has been no improvement let the old set oome back. A better admlaiatration was promised the people and it ought to be shown wherein tbey have had it." We were surprised when we resd tha above, as we had supposed you were. from tbe statement published o your paper in toe past relative tothfe counts of the ex sheriff and the ex- county treasurer of our county, in formed of some lmproTement and some benefit the county had received ky the change made in tbe county officers. It has been clearly shown that tha school fund has been almost doubly in creased in its receipts and a large tarn of money amounting to SI, 110 58 which had been withheld from the oounty has been unearthed and recovered by the coalition movement. 80 far as can be onset Ted the present officers are performing their' tfuttos faithfully and honestly. au4cfdin to law, and tbe monthly staAetnimta re-i - . . - 'i quirsd to be published b the r'HIT and county treasurer are bl, i f regularly, so that -" -n ishat if being done with the publio money. It the present offioers should fail ,ia Any of their duties, or should withhold pas- lic funds, as haa been clearly shown In the cases of our former sheriff as4 oounty treasurer, we say turn them out and punish them according to law. and put in a new set and not "let tha old set oome back," or, in other word, "swap tbe devil for the witch" We do not believe in condoning arime, nor offering excuses for crimes or neglect of duty, as some of the opponent! of ooalition have done hy their ror4e,4id deeds. We are satisfied tbmt thef ffes ent offioers are honest and faithful to their duty, and there is ho evidence wherein it can be shown that they are dishonest or that they have failed to perform their duties. As the "old set" has been put for ward to be voted for gain for the re spective oounty offices, and there are men who are endeavoring to force them upon the people through the in strumentality of their political dopes. we say that ooalition is a necessity in our count o affaira, and should be adopted by all good men, both white, colored, Republican and Democrat, as a remedy to save the county from the disgrace of electing mBn; who 4 e shown by their words and acts w they are neither worthy ner $tto h. the offices they seek.
