From a correspondent of tne Star at Laurinbarg and from persona arriving on the Carolina Central train last eve ning the following particulars were gathered. The MoOullum Hotel near railroad depot, was esdly damaged ; one of the brick chimneys was blown down, demolishing part of the roof and crush ing through tbe building to the nrst floor. The furniture and carpets in the rooms of the building were oont idt la'tly damaged; but, fortunately uo person was injured. Ur The Mystery Sohed J.u'KSONviLLg, Kla.. June -The mystery of the poisoning nf tho colored man Dean and four children hero Tues- dsy has been solved. Dean's son aged 15 had committed a robbery of a pistol and some provisions from a neighbor on Sunday night, and m identified next day. When the father was notified of the facts, he threatened to give the boy one hundred lasbes for committing the robbery. Monday afternoon thn fright ened boy purchased a package of Rough on Rats, which he had learned was a fatal poison, and while his father was boiling potatoes, on Tuesday morning, the boy emptied the entire contenu of the package In tbe water in which the potatoes were being boiled. The boy was arrested this after noon and made full confession, procur ing the can which has contained poison, hich he had thrown into a swamp half a mile away. He is now 10 jail awaiting trial. New London, Conn., June 9 The eleventh annual eight-oared race be tween the University crews of Yale and Harvard was rowed this afternoon over the Thames river oourse, four miles straight away, and won by Yale by 24 lengths. Time 20.12; Harvard's time 31.14. The series of races between these two colleges now stand six to five in favor of Yale.
