Tobacco Association The Tobacco Association which con vened at Morehead City on the 88th of August completed their work and ad journed on Wedneeday night. The member passed through on their way home yesterday morning. The eeasion was quite an interesting one. A long and spirited discussion arose on a reso lution forbidding wnrehousemen to bid on tobbaooo sold on their own floors. A compromise was at last reached by amending the resolution so as to allow them two bide. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, J. S. Cam Vice-Presidents, J. L. King of Greensboro; J. M. Currin of Oxford ; D. Y. Cooper of Bendereon; E C. Ed munds of Winston; R. P. Walker of Asheyille; S. B. Arrington of Warren ton. Secretary, O. E. Webb of Wins ton; Assistant Secretary, O. S. Smoot of Oxford; Treasurer, W. T. Lipscomb of Raleigh. Association adjourned to meet In Greensboro on the fourth Tuesday in August, 1889. The eonvention waa celled to order by E.C. Smith, Eaq . of Raleigh, who, after a few well-choseo remark as to the aims and objects of th convention requested B. R. Bryan, Eaq.. to take the ehair. Mr. Bryan responded in a very pa triotic and encouraging speech. Dr. M. F. Arendall, in behalf of the club et Morehead City, extended e hearty welcome to the delegate in at tendance. E. E. Paechall, Eq , of Oxford waa made temporary secretary. A. B. Stokee of Durham offered tbe following resolution, which was adopt ed: Resolved, That as no contests are re ported, a committee on credentials be i dispensed with, and clubs are requested to report direct to the secretary. Delegates from thirty Clube scattered throughout the State reported. Cept. W. T. R. Bell of Shelby offered tbe following, which was adopted. Resolved, That tbe members of the central committees of tbe National As eooiation of Democratic Clubs on the part of the State of North Carotin, be constituted delegates at large from th 8tate to this convention. Col R. F. Webb of Durham offered resolution, which waa adopted, to ap point a committee of five on the organ isation of a permanent aseociation. The chair appointed Col . R F. Webb, Dr. M. F. George Rountree, Esq, introduced the following resolution: Resolved, That tbe chair appoiut a committee of five on resolutions, and that all resolutions offered shall be re ferred to such committee without de bate. Mr. McClammy of Wilmington of fered a resolution to make the tempo rary organization of the convention permanent, whioh was adopted. D.
