Iwo and nine-tenths inches of rain fell The good old town of Carthage, Moore county, now has telegraphic aa well ai railroad oommunioation with the out side world, a telegraphia line from Cameron, a station on the Raleigh and Augusta Air Line, to Carthage, having been opened for business yetterday. The Carthage railroad, from Cameron to Carthage, waa opened for business on August 13th last. This road is op erated as a branch of the Raleigh end Augusta Air Line, and gives Carthage direct communication with all points via tbe great Seaboard Air Line system of rsilroad and steamer lines. Thus has the Seaboard Air Line constructed another branch, thereby adding to the material interests of North Carolina, as well as to tbe people along the lino Statesville Landmark: A telegram from Congressman Henderaon Monday evening brought the gratifying infor mation tbat tbe committee on appro tion bad inserted in the sundry civil bill 175,000 for the Statesville public building.
