It also says: Toiled States District Attorney Dauiel L. Lock wood, of Buffalo, was at Democratic headquarters yesterday. He brought most cheering news from the northern and western counties of the State. Cleveland and Hill, be says, are growing in strength every hour. Democratic mass meetings are held every night in tbe city of Buffalo and thronghout the county of Erie, and the enthusiasm for tbe national and State tickets grows with the hours." The peculiar ity of the meeting was that while it was held nnder the auspices of the Cleveland Guards not a single Democrat was on tbe stage. It was presided over by Henry B. Fisher, a lifelong Republican, vith twenty five Republicans as vice-presidents. All of these men, together with their strong follow ing, are going to support the Democratic national ticket, and are boldly announcing themselves for tariff reform. This is one of the greatest revolts yet reported, and is received as an alarming omen in the Republican ranks. It looks like a stampede in this section of the State. Local news. NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. His Honor's charge was brief and to the point. The afternoon session was consumed in the trial of S. F. Nobla for an assault on a government officer. Mr. A. w. Wood, tbe officer upon whom the assault waa made, was the only witness on tbe part of the government. The substance of his testimony waa that be was in the defendant's neighborhood searching for an illicit distillery. He passed the de fendant's house, and after crossing a branoh met tbe defendant with a double barreled gun and a tin buoket. One barrel of the gun waa cocked. De fendant asked htm where be was going be replied that be was going across the hill: defendant told him he better not go. At this time air, Vsncouver who Lwaa with Mr. Wood came in view of defendant and he then cocked the other barrel of tbe gun, threw it up and fired, the load passing through his coat sleeve. It waa deep dusk whan the gun fired Tbe defendant introduced several wit nesses to prove an alibi. District At torney Buebee appeared for tha govern ment, L. 3. Moore, Esq., for the de fendant. These gentlemen presented the ease with their usual vigor aad force, and after a dear and impartial ohargo from His Honor, the jury re turned a verdict of guilty. U. S. vs. Frank Harper for retailing liquor without license wu next called. The defendant pleaded not guilty. At torney Busbee for government; no counsel for defendant. The evidence showed that the defendant wu guilty, hut there wu some disagreement as to whether it wu whiskey, rum or gin. One witness testified that he did not drink enough to tell the difference. The defendant testified that be got some liquor, for several parties and that he got it at Harper's mill. Verdict, guilty. The following visiting attorneys are attending court: Messrs. John F.
