But it must be remembered that they must apply 'the same rules to the Democrats whom they have appointed. Under these rules it may bo difficult for any man to give bond, but in order to sus tain it the Democrats of the county ought to rally to the support of those elected and aid them in giving good bond. In EdgSoombe county the Democrat that were elected to fill the vacancies filed their bonds promptly and were inducted into effice. The moral effect of such prompt action was good and wholesome. There is no better Democrat, nor man, in Craven county than William B. Lane, th man appointed sheriff. The Democrats ought to rally to him and se that he give the best bond ever of fered by any aherifl since tbe war. He is th first Democratic sheriff eince the ! days of reconstruction, and his admin istration of the office for two years will have a wholesome effect upon our county affair. Kinston Items. Cumberland county, as a candidate fur Hpeaker of the liouseof Representatives in tbe next General Assembly. Hi name will be presented to the Democratic caucus for the nomination. As a man of unquestioned ability aud a sincere friend he wa a great favorite among tbe members of the legislature of 18S7, of which he was a member from Cumberland, as well as admired and loved by the people for his working qualiti and fidelity to their interest. He was foremost in the debates of the House and framed and fostered much of lbs best legislation of tbe session. In tbe prime of life and intellectually and physically a strong man, he would reflect honor upon his section and the whole State. He is the only candidate for Speaker to far as the writer is informed from Eastern North Carolina. Though an Eastern man aad thorough ly identified with all her interests, and though the West has had the last two Speaker, and will probably get a large hare of the oflices in the right of both branches of the Legislature, Mr. Sut ton's friends in the West unite with those in the East and ak hi election, because of bis ability, bis progressive ness sad friendship to the farmer, the laboring man and the railroad interests of the East.
