Bur Alllanoe, near Seven Springs, Leaoir eocaty, has adopted the folio w ing reeolatloBet , Reeolvwd, That this Alliance stand by the Faraawls Stats Alliance of North Carolina In every effort to promote the general, poUtioal and material welfare of the Stat. Resolved, That we endorse the de mands of our State Alliance for a better disposition of the eeaviot tabor of the Bute; for redaction in cost of litigation in minor causes; for prohibiting public officials from receiving and Being free peases on railroads; for a railroad com mission. Resolved . That we demand a general law for the 8tate preventing teams be ing driven faster than a walk over oar publio bridgee. Reeolved, That we demand the sale of the 8tate's stock in the Atlantic and N.C. Railroad aa soon aa a liberal off sr is made for it. These are eenaibie resolutions, but in regard to the last the question ariaea. What ii a liberal offer? I In answer to this question there are several things to be considared. It might be considered a liberal propo sition by some if the State could be re paid the money it has expended in the construction 01 the road and let the purohaser do what be pleases with it, but those who understand the situation and have an earnest desire to build up North Carolina and develop bar hidden wealth,' know tht it would be much better offer if any corporation would take the State's stock a- a ii.'t idJ ob ligate to extend the ruad ioto the inte rior of the State, build branch lines into several of the eastern counties, and use it for the development of the coun try and the building up of tbe seaport towns of the Stale. During the year 1387 a large delega tion of citizens from along the line of tbe A. ft N. O.K. wailed upon Gov. Scales and urged him to make some disposition of the road that would re lieve our eastern people of the unjust burden that haa been, imposed upon their industries by the combinations against this road . At that time a prop osition was made by the C. F. ft Y. V that any wise Governor, it seems to as would have accepted at once If thi( proposition had been accepted the At lantic road would have now been a part of the C. F ft Y. V , and the corn growers, fish and oyster dealers would have keen able to put their products in the central portion of the State and the exports of a large territory would have found an outlet over its line. Look at thia picture: 'Gentlemen at Sanford have recently written to New Berne to know what corn oan be deliv ered for at that point. The freight is only about twenty-six cents per hun dred pounds, more than fourteen cents per buabel, or about ontfourth of the valui of the corn. By reason of such rates, the Illinois oorn grower, though nearly a thousand miles further, is brought nearer to tha people of central North Carolina than the grower in east era Carolina! Any offer for the State's stock in the A. ft N. C. R. that promisee to bring tbe people of tbe State nearer together, en courage the development jof home in dustries, trade and commerce, will be a good offer, and we hope the Alliance will insist on such disposition of tbe State's stock.
