A motion for a new trial was immediately made upon the finding of the verdict, pending the argument of which he was allowed bail in the sum of 820,000. Tbe Wilrxlngton Messenger ie urging an increase of tho appropriation for constructing a road to the National Cemetery. The Messenger cites the fact that New Berne has twenty thousand, but it must remember that the road here will be about two miles long. We have received from the marshals a pomplimentary ticket to the nfty fourth anniversary exercise of the Euselean and Pbilomathesian Literary Societies of Wake Forest College on Friday. February 15th, 1889. . If we fail to attend it must not be considered as evidence of oar indifference, for we feel the f reatest in the young men of oar State. It is even so, and our saw mills are con stantly increasing their oapaoity and adding kilns and other machinery for manufacturing the lumber. Congdon & Son will soon have la soeratlon the finest saw mill in tbefeootb. But we ship too nrooh raw lumber. It ought to be made into furniture, sash, doors, blinds, mouldings, bsl isters, Ac , A.;. No town or city in the round world is more favorably .located for the manufacture of these goods than New Berne. At a meet ing of th Weaver's Union last night it was decided to draw up resolutions ask ing for an advance in wages and con demning the Board of Trade for refus ing to listen to the wishes of the weavers as expressed by the Union, and advising a strike in the event of a continuance of the present policy of the manufac turers.
