The able and accomplished editor of the Wilmington Star has expressed his purpose to attend the East North Caro lina Exposition, to be held ia this city, commercing on the 19th of February. We beg to aeaur him that no man Will receive a more cordial welcome from the people of New Berne. The item about the schooner Mattie E. Hile which appeared in yesterday issue was incorrect. We were informed of it incorrectness after it was written and the usual precaution was taken to keep it out, bnt with the usual result, viz: v henever we are anxious that a thing shall not ppear in the paper after it has been pat in type, it is sure to be there tbe next morning At k meeting of the Trustees of the New Berne Academy held yesterday evening John B. The people Business Xea of Kew Bern. We Oomanead (be following paragraph to the pwtinees ma ef New Berne a worthy ? thir eoAeiieratkoa : "We have looked ever the m timing' ton tad New Barae papers with a view of seadiAg ten pie oopto of the argonaut M sosae 9i the baaiaaa tan 9t thoM place, and if w are to judge from the e4vtrtiaaatu ia the paper, there ar very few 1st either plaoe. Thar are about two hundred and fifty place of buaiaeaa is the city of New Berne, yet, ia oar recent ednioa of fl thousand only thirty thrte excla ive of steamer Una had jard and ad vertise meats. W sometime blush while writing articles on the eoterpria and wash and amoaal of basin done ia Nw Barn, because we knew that at advertising column de not er fy the elaim. We have been eoneidarinf the ques tion of gatting out daring the coming spring an industrial edition of ten thou sand ccpie of the Weekly Jocrmal, in which we propose to give a complete directory of the business places of New Berne, also pictorial illustration and sketches of public building and churches. In this w propose U show the world the locatien and oharacter of every buaineas plaoe and manufactur ing ioduttry in the city. But will the business men of New Berne help us? Do they want it known that New Bernd is a place ot commercial and manufac turing importance, or do they prefer to remain in obscurit? Some of our wide awake merchant Lave strings notions about adverting. They resort to every other means save the beet of all, the newspaper medium, yet they are bound to know that they are indebt ed to tbe newspaper that goes out every a ay and every wets in the year with unerring oertainty to speak words of praise for their town and to attract trade hither. We venture the assertion that there is not a merchant or business man in tbe city of New Berne that has not been benefited during the last six years by the Jocrsal whether tbey have given it patronage or not. We do not begrudge them the good they have received from it, we rejoice in the fact that we conscienciouHly believe they have been benefited notwithstanding they withhold their support. See how the merchants of Charlotte value a newspaper. "The people of Charlotte have done a handaom thing by the Daily Chronicle In addition to contributing liberally to ward it (up port Otherwise, the mer chants hav agreed to allow the price of advertising tob raised 100 per cent. This ia quit creditable to the people of Charlott." Now what we want to say to the busi ness men of Kew Berne, specially tbose who do not use our advertising columns, is, that whatever patronage you bestow upon the Journal will be returned in the way of improvement In the paper. New Berne ought to give a newspaper ufflcisnt support to justify it in taking the press dispatches and market re ports. If every business man in the cityor even a majority of them would give tbe Journal liberal patronage they could have at tbe breakfast table every morning the happenings through out the country of the dsy before and the market reports. Vanes Coming'. A letter has been received from Sen ator Vane in which he states he will be at oar Fair unless Providentially hindered. Senator Ransom has also sent a message that he would certainly be with as one day during the Fair. Now ,we want ear fishermen, oyster- men, sportsmen, farmers, manufactur ers, mechanics, machinists, artists, stockmen and all classes to do tbeir level best to have the finest exhibit ever seen in North Carolina. We know we can do the thing if we only trill do it A large crowd will be here, many from distance, and we want tbem when they go away to have something good to ssy of New Berne and the surround ing country. A Suggestion to Hyde County, On of the beet things Hyde county can exhibit st onr approaching Fair is a section say two feet square of that f smoni sou that hss;been in cultivation for near a century, without manure, and produce from seventy-five to one hundred bushels of corn to the acre. Will not some of the wids-swake far mers down there bring up this with other exhibits r We want to see a good exhibit from all the adjoining counties 1 . .- Supping New. ' The steamer Vesper of the .
