It will be the second of the annual set it which ha been inaugurated by th progressive men having the mailer in charge. Last year's show was par ticularly successful and the pride of the State should be enlisted to the end that this year's may be even more so It wilt be larger, fuller, in every way. It will do much to advance the welfare of the State. It will tend to show ihs great undeveloped resources of our eastern section. It will show what we have in that quarter that requires only a little oapital, a little skill, a little knowledge of buaineas to make fortunes for raauy men and to add to the general welfare decidedly. A the east shall prosper as any one section shall do well, the whole State will be benefited Tbe whole State therefore should be interested in the Fair to be held by the publio spirited citizen of tbe New Berne region. " Senator Tance. WaJhwqton , January 28. Senator Vance today bad one of his eye re moved. He commenced to loss tbe sight of the eye more than a year ago and it ha grown worse until recently, When he entirely lost the eight of the eye. The physician have never been able to ascertain .the direct cause of tbe affliction, wbloh took the form of a separation of the retinue from the ball of the eye. The operation was success fully performed at the Senator' resi dence in tbi city, anal in answer to a note from Senator Ransom Senator Vance's eon say that his father is rest ing comfortably and that all danger is past. Charles MuUiil, colored, was hanged here today for the murder of Willie Leonard, a fifteen-year-old white boy, in June. 1887. Leonard was taking a drink from a water-bole, when MoQill crushed in his skull wi-.h a fish-plate. Robbvry was tbe motive. EdTaw, Ala., Jan. 25. Jim Seams, who a year ego shot and killed Deputy Sheriff Autry while the latter was about to arrest him, was banged here today in the presence of a great crowd of people.
