W e call attention to the matter so that the directors of the Association may look after it. We trust the R. ft D. will give favorable rates as there are doubtless many people along it line who desire to attend the Fair. If they have made any special rates we are not aware of it. Kind Word. The Durham Tobacco Plant has the following notice of the "Winter Fair" for which we return thanks: All the indications are that the New Berne Fair, which open on the 19th, will be a great success. We sincerely hope It will be a grand luoceee for the advantage it will be not only to New Berne, but to the Bute generally. A fair in mid-winter is a novelty, and this one seem to be attracting a great deal of attention from beyond the borders of our Bute. Our New Berne friends have shown great spirit and energy in their effort to make their fair a (uocee, and they deserve great credit for what they have done. We see that a great many Northern people have expressed tbeir intention of being present, and no doubt many of them will be so charmed with the city, its climate and Its people, that they will be inclined to spend a good portion of their winter there, and to make it their permanent winter resort instead of go ing farther south. This, of coarse, will be a great gain for New Berne, and whatever helps one part Is of advantage to tha State generally. For this reason the New Bernians should in this mstter have the encouragement and aid of the people from all parts of the State. We wish them all success snd hope their expectation may be fully realized. Uov. Lee's Prhate Secretary Commils Suicide. Richmond. Va.., Fob. 7.-Th Oover nor's private secretary, James E.
