' " The financial condition ef the oounry. so far' as payinf enrreak expanses, is aot good. There is not one cant la the treasury to pay the jnrors for the pres ent term ef the court and they would either not have been paid er no eosui would have been held if the chairman oi the board el county eommlssioners had aot agreed to make, arrangamenta Opay them. ..w The levy under the eonstituUon does not bring ia snfBoien funds to pay current expenses. Ik would, probably bring ia something near enough, if the privileged olaao (those who defy the law end refuse to pay oould be induced to oome forward and bear their portion of tho publlo burden. But it is well known that enough is aot collected to defray the7 current expenses of the county. ' This has been known by the Justices of the county these several years, and knowing this, a meeting was held the first Monday la February, U we mistake not, and after a full discussion of the matter, a resolution was passed almost unanimously, requeuing the General Assembly then In session to pass an act enabling the commissioners and justices to levy s special tax for the purpose of cancelling the floating debt of the county and meeting current ex penses. ' A bill ' waa drawn by the county attorneys and placed In the hands of Senator Green, who i,alao a justice and was certainly familiar with the condition ef the oounty finances. The bill did not pass, and as Senator Green did not, so far as we can learn, make any effort, to have if passed, per haps pa has somo'plaa, to relieve the county of Its financial troubles, If so it la to be hoped that he will bring! it for ward m the-meeticg tomorrow.- He certainly owes' it to his constituents, specially the board of justioes, to ex plain why he Ignored their request. We think the board ought to demand an explanation.' The former board of commissioners had been in' office so long tJntil some people begun. W think thai there was not that economical administration Of thi. county affaire that ought to be. But a ne w board flnda that with, all the economy they can Command, consistent with their dutiecv they can not-make the receipts under the constitutional levy meet the current expenses.' , '. it is a matter for the commissioners and justioes to discuss, and as Senator Green failed to have the bill passed whloh would have given relief, he ought, as a member of the board, sug gest a better plait than levying a special tax. We "hope some member of the board win call him out on this point. 1 . nil . ii . ..- . . . Church. 8erriceTodayr ' - Preshy teriaa Church RevX.C.
