Elsewhere ie a list of the subscribers and it embraces many of our best busi ness men whom we know are anxious to aid In an enterprise of this sort or any other that will give employment to the people and better their condition generally. New Berne must build up her local business; Her business men must con- osntrate a portion of their capital for this purpose. The putting of the A.ft N. Railroad under the influence of the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad and de stroying all hope of friendly relations with the Richmond and Danville, has just about destroyed our corn trade, and we all know that this same Raleigh influence is making a desperate effort to continue their control. It only-remains to be seen whether the noble and patriotio liberty-loving, law-abiding Daniel G. Fowle will allow the same influence which has become interested by the purchase of afew shares of stock, not for the good of we people whose destinies to a great extent depend upon the road, but to prevent our advance ment, to direct the policy of this road for another four years. 0 Let us unite and inaugurate suoh in dustries and enterprises as will employ our people and leave the profits of their labor in our own town. This is what the co-operative faotory means and this is why you should go to the meet ing tomorrow night determined to do all you can for its success.
