At 12 o'clook the reunion oi ex Con federate veterans was held in the north end of the grand stand on the fair grounds, which was well attended. After the meeting a sumptuous lunch was served through the courtesy of Julian S. Carr, President ofjthe Association. The crowd oh the grounds is estimat ed at from six thousand to seven thousand. A brilliant marriage took plaoe today (Oct: 16) at 9 o'clock at Bond's Hill, the residenoe of the bride's mother. Tbe contracting parties were Mr. N. J. Rouse and Miss Mattie H. Rountree, tbe charming and accomplished daughter of the late Dr. F. M. Rountree. The groom is a talented lawyer of brilliant attainments, is deservedly popular wherever known, especially in Eastern N. C, and is the eon of Mr. Noah Rouse of LaGranee. The attendants were Mr. T. R. House with Miss Sallie Rountree, Mr. H. E. Mosely with Miss Lillie Rouse, Mr. A. T. Hill with Miss Mattie W. Rountree, Mr. F. M. Rountree with Miss Lidie Lassiter and Mr. J. R. He went to bed apparently well and was taken sick that night and died before day. Mr. Taylor was probably the oldest man in the oounty. How cheap are human lives t Wilson thought his dog's life was more more valuable than a man V. Goldsboro Mercury : It is calculated that the Building and Loan Association will give Goldsboro such a building boom as she has not enjoyed in ten years. The health of the town has been remarkably good during the sum mer and fall, attributable in no small degree to tbe excellent attention of tbe authorities to street drainage. La Grange Sentinel; We have neyer known the U. S. mail service to be in a more deplorable condition than it is at the present time. Letters are delayed after being postmarked, and often sent to tbe wrong office. At this point a large number of the Northern papers axe carried by on the east-bound train and returned the next morning. We never had such servioe on this route before, except now and then when tbe train was delayed, and then it was only a few circulars of unimportant matter. Greenville Reflector: Greenville bust ness men are delighted with the better mail facilities that the railroad has given us. Greenville people feast on fish shipped around by rail from More bead City. They come in twelve hours. While in our office tbe other night Mr. Frank Powell, editor of the Tarboro Southerner, told us there had been 2,100 errors reported against Mr. Bryan, the postal clerk on the A. & R. Road, during two months. Why tbe government will persist in keeping such incompetent men in the service, we are unable to see. Elizabeth City Economist: Nags head is again, we are happy to announoe, to lift up its venerable head from its bowed condition. C. W.
