Aftor the sermon penitents were invited to the altar and about twenty-five accepted the invitation, and a majority of them professed conversion Mr. North, who wae reported in Sun' day's Journal to be critically ill from the effects of gas, at Hotel Albert, died at 4:80 o'clock Sunday morning. The physicians who attended Mr. North say that gas was the primary cause of death. The body was taken la charge by Mr E. H. Piokles and wife, who were here during the siokness of Mr. North, and carried to Washington on the ntean tag Lizzie Massey. Mrs. Pickles, we learn, is a daughter of the deceased. He was about sixty years of age. Shipping News. The steamer Annie of the E. C. D. Line sailed yesterday with full oargo cotton, lumber, naval stores eto. The Eaglet of this Una will sail today at 4 o'clock. Accidentally Shot Himself. Mr. Sam Parrott, ferryman at Street's ferrr. nn Nense river, went out to shoot squirrels on last Saturday, and acci- dentally shot himself. Church was filled to overflowing Sunday night to hear the word of God. Besides tbe packing of the main auditorium, the isles were seated with chairs and the galleries filled to their uttermost Standing room was soaroely attainable and we believe some were turned away Meetings in this church had been held the previous entire week and oonsid erable interest aroused, but it was not until Sunday night that the effect of the work was developed. The sermon was preached by Rev. J. F. I Butt, whose style, though peculiar, did not fail to impress the audience that I they were gazing upon a man of great faith and will-power. Like the Rev. Mr. Pearson, the speaker said : ' i believe in running on schedule time, and not keeping those hero who may wish to leave." Precisely at nine o'olook he dismissed the congregation, requesting those who were interested in giving themselves to Christ, and Christians who were willing to aid in the work, to keep their I soats a while longer. More than half the number present remained in, and after strong and urgent appeals the benohes about the altar were crowded with mourners, thirty-one of whom Rave their names to be enlisted members of the Churoh.
