It is a central point to a large territory and easily accessible, but the principal oauBe it should demand trade from a distance is because of the very low rate at which merchandise is sold. In proof thereof you only hare to glance at the double column advertise- ment of Mr. Wo, Sultan on the fourth page of the Journal. It is true that Mr. Sultan buys in large shipments and secured very low freight rates, but generally speaking New Berne offers superior inducements to the trade of any market. i Indiana jir, -leaving for in their wages. BBIEF OUTLQfB OF THB CEOKLN CASK NOW 05 TRIAL VS CHICAGO Several months ago the country was startled by the murder of Dr. Cronin in the city of Chicago. Mystery always invests its subject with additional at traction, and this case hisbe?a en veloped in a cloud of mystery. The case commenced with circum stantial evidence that gradually in creased until it became positive. Some days after Dr. Cronin was missed his body was found in one ot the catch basins of Chicago, and the police at once commenced their investi gation; For a long time they were baf fled. At last it was ascertained that Dr. Cronin had been a member of the "Clan-na-Gael," and suspicion was aroused that his taking off was in some way connected with that mystic order. It is now the theory of the prosecu tion that Dr. Cronin was adjudged guilty of treason by the "Clan-na-Gael," and lota were cast to see who should be his executioners, and the lot fell on a man named Burke andiour others. The Carlston cottage was rented, and Cronin- was abdu3teand carried there, and the bloody tragedy enaoted. the State very properly insists that whoever may baye struck the fatal blow the Clan-na-Gael" is responsible, and every member of the order varticeps enmmis. it is no wonder, then, that the case has elicited such interest, and that it has been so difficult to obtain a jury But, it ia now under way, and will take rank with the most noted trials in all the annals of criminal jurisprudence. Arrests of parties are still eoins on and it is impossible to tell what the end will be. NORM CAROLINA NEWS.
