So far the Winters of 1889 and 1890 have been pretty much alike. The years 1815 and 1816 were also very mild. I often beard my father talk about those Winters, and in this snort article 1 will try and give some of the facts as my father gave them to me. in 1815 very little snow fell in November, and Decem ber: in January, 1816. it was mud: the sun was shining most every clay daring the month. The people thoaght fcebruary would be cold, bnt that month turned oat very .varm also, ' The month of March was cold , and stormy. A great many people called the year, a year without a Hammer. - In April it was very cold; daring May the ice was one inch thick on some streams.. The fruit tree blossoms and the young corn were frozen. Some farmers built large fires around their fields and the smoke and heat saved some of the young corn. In Jane snow and ice conld bo found: vegetables were a failure. When the rye was in blossom, six inches of snow fell, and some far- mAa fV Innr linita mAnf n nrftfiS iivto vuusa. luujj iiurjr. ncuu auivao their fields and pulled off the snow. All the farmers that did that got no rye: those who left the snow on got about half a crop. The 4th of July was very cold and windy: on the 5th ice formed on the waters of New York, Pennsylvania and some of the other Eastern States. In August, ice formed half an inch thick; September and October were warm. All eroDB were a fail All crops were Cam Hold far from 11. 50 , ta 25 Der bushel.
