The Baptist Sunday-school and a large number ofinvited friends boarded a special train for Morehead City yester day morning at 9 o'clock. There never left New Berne a picnic party in which was nioro pleasant humor and brighter faces. Everybody seemed inclined to have a good time themselves and make others eDjoy thomselvea. The weather was perfectly delighted no rain. All tho varied resources for amuse ment offered by Morehead City and surroundings were taken ad vantage of. This is a sad loss to Greene county and to the State. lie was an excellent man; man oi charmer and torse; an in valuable citizen. Tbe Argus of the 8d inst. says: "Just as we go to press we learn, by telegram, of the unexpected death of Capt. W. A. Darden, of Greene county, one of the truest of Democrats and most chivalrous of men, which occurred yesterday in Gatesville,' N. C., where be wag going the rounds of the lectur ing tour assigned him by the State Farmers' Allianoe, of which he was a prominent member. "Uapt. Darden was quiet and unob trusive in his manner. He was strong ly domestic in his habits, and rather inclined to be reserved. Those Who enjoyed the privilege of intimaoy with him were bound to esteem him for his sterling qualities and to love him for his many virtues. His leading charac teristics were strict justice and firm adherence to principle. Faithful to his convictionr, true to his friends, con scientious in the discharge of his duty, he was a man among men faithful and tender and true one who could be relied upon in any emergency. ' Capt. Darden was in the prime of usefulness and hope, with every indi cation that he would have reoeived the nomination for State Auditor at the next general State Democratic Con vention. Yet, in the midst of lire be did not forget the 'Beginning, Mean and End of all things God,' and for yeara he had been a devout and ex emplary member of the Methodist church. Hence it is gratifying to his friends and full of consolation to the loving relatives he leaves behind to know that, though his summons may have been sudden, yet when he 'fell on sleep' he rested in the arms of a loving Saviour. An earnest Christian, there can be no doubt that his slumber, though dreamless and endless here, has had a glorious waking beyond." Terrific Explosion. Cleveland, June 8. At 4 o'clock, this afternoon, during a thunder storm, lightning struck a powder house, one mile ease of Marshneld, Ohio, owned by Traoy & Avery, whioh contained over five thousand pounds of powder. A terrific e xplosion followed, that was felt distinctly in all parts of the city. Not a vestige of the little building was left, but a swath of destruction and desolation had been awept in every direction. Just across the road . was the dwelling of Henry Roost, in whioh at the time were his wife and three ohildren. ' The house was shivered to atoms. One of the children, fifteen months old. was crushed and hurled thirty feet away lifeless. Another, four yeara old, was so badly injured that she will die, and the mother is nneonsoloua from in juries that will likely prove fatal. A new unoooupied dwelling adjacent to the. Roost house, was levelled to the foundation. The force or the explosion waa so terrific that bricks of the powder house were -hurled '.full a quarter of a mile ' , - lL A J.kJ. A.. d.U. and through adjoining woods, leaving" a path like that of a shell awept battle field. All tbe- windows of the houses within, a radius of . half a mile were shattered, and the Plata plate and glass windows in the postoffloe about one and a half miles away were broken. ; ; For bracing up the nerven. purify Ina the blood and ouring ilok beadaohe and dyspepsia,- there te -nothing1- equal' to uooa.i Bampaua.-;'5:Af:v5.: t Stonewall Items. Chicago, June 2. Mrs. Parsons, in a speech today at a meeting of the "Ar-beiter-Bund," said: "Dynamite was to be the liberator of tbe human race; not that people would go round with bombs and destroy human life, but that as gunpowder had abolished the power of the feudal barons, so would dyna mite, in the hands of the working classes, render the armies of tbecapi talists useless in a street fight. Resolutions prepared by Mrs. Parsons were adopted declaring the "rinding" of dynamite at the Haymarket monu ment to be an attempt upon part of tbe police to raise an anarchist hue and cry for purposes of their own, particularly to prejudice the caso of Fielden, Schwab and Neebee. Brains and Money. Ex Congressman Logan H. Roots, at the christening ceremonies of the town Kimball, on the Tennessee River, thirty miles west of Chattanooga, said that to make an industrial development required nature's gifts, brains and money. The Geologist and every other intelligent person who examined the subject reported the immediate prox imity of timbers, metals, coal, clays, stone, and in fact everything that can be well thought of necessary for a man ufacturing city are situated right there on tbe banks of the Tennessee River, the only plaoe where the Tennessee River touches the Cumberland coal fields. The Colonel also assured par ties that ample funds had been pro vided for it, so that there will be no lack of money; and U. S. Judge Key said that Colonel Roots' statement on such subjects could be relied upon. The Colonel remarked, bowever, that he was not making assertions as to the brains devoted to the management. When it is known that Colonel Roots is the President of the Company, and that H- I. Kimball, of New England birth and Georgia residence, famed for his management of large enterprises, is the Vice-President and General Manager, the assurance of brains controlling af fairs is complete. He who misses be ing at Kimball on the 10th and 11th of June will oertainly miss an opportunity for great pleasure and opportunities for profitable investment. Fell Dead During an Altercation.
