A Youth Hanged.
Columbia, S. C, July 12. Armistead
Jones, colored, was hanged at Grange-
burg yesterday. He was one- of the
youngest persons ever hanged in this
State, his age being between 16 and 17
years. His crime was the murder of
his step-mother. He and a younger
brother quarreled with the step-mother
one day last February and the boys
agreed to kill her.' . Armistead shot her
in a most brutal manner. Both broth
ers were sentenced to death, but the
sentence of the younger was commuted
to imprisonment for ten years.
